My husband booked the Donoho Hotel because it was a different place to stop on our way back to Ontario Canada. The history behind the hotel was interesting and the fact Ronnie McDowell was there singing for a couple hours was a pleasant surprise . The hotel is over 100 years old and the room was small but very clean and comfortable . No TV which was fine with us . The bed was old but comfy and the long porch was nice to sit out on. What really made our visit really great was to actually sit through a long session of Ronnie McDowell singing with his band and a song by his son Tyler. Ronnie is a great entertainer and the band was really good. It was such a great afternoon. The people that are regulars made my husband and myself feel so welcome. There was no supper that night in the hotel but we took a drive 15 minutes away and had a great meal in Lafayette . The breakfast was served family stile and everything was delicious hot and the best cup of coffee to start the day . Is was old and filled with character and so glad we made the stop over. Was with a five star . We look forward to returning.
We had a great time staying at the Donoho. John, the manager, was very pleasant and helped us have an enjoyable visit. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable. The food was excellent with plenty of choices. The cooks went above what was expected to make sure we enjoyed the meals. The Ronnie McDowell show was the best entertainment we have had.
People writing negative reviews miss the point of this hotel. It was built in 1916. It wasn't meant to have everything we have in the comfort of our own home. No TV, no phone in the rooms. So what? The rooms are small. Remember when it was built. The food is family style, not gourmet...and it's delicious! The staff is friendly and helpful, and they work their tails off. John Cook, the owner, is a great guy and very helpful. Ronnie McDowell puts on a great show and is extremely friendly. I've been there 4 or 5 times. If I have a gripe, it that the hotel is not very wheelchair friendly...and I happen to be in a wheelchair. I've been able to bring with me what I need to overcome that obstacle, and it's not going to stop me from continuing to go. The property is a historical landmark, so it's exempt from having to do renovations to make it more wheelchair friendly. I understand that and accept it for what it is, not what I want, or "expect" in a hotel. Enjoy the experience and the people.
Loved the Loretta show and the food is always great at the Donoho. They go out of their way to make your visit one to remember!
I must update- Cook settled in court and my mama was mostly reimbursed. However- I still say mind your wallet if you go there, or better yet, go to The Thomas House. Better everything! BEWARE of current proprietor John Cook- he is a lying con man who will run up false charges on your credit card! He stole from my 82 year old mother and other family members when they stayed for a reunion. My mother won against him in court but will never see the money because he is a soulless grifter and piece of garbage who does this all of the time. Karma is coming for you, mister. It always does. I just found out this man has served time in KY. TBI needs to become involved- he’s conned countless people!
I could go on and on about the experience. Food is immaculate. Service so friendly almost hard to believe, being use to city restaurants. |And the prices are ridiculously low.|10 stars out of 5! |I usually don't write reviews but this place was special.
So my wife's company had made reservations for her to stay here she was a little excited when she first got there then it just went down hill from there told her they had been wait for her she was like ok well I'm here she asked about paying for her stay and was told to wait till checkout which was strange to her went to her room and just shocked when she walked in turn to shut the door and lock it just a knob lock and no guts in the deadbolt no chain slide lock then the blinds by the door had 2 blades broke with no real window covering then looked across the room no fig no microwave no coffee maker then looked down just a window unit for air and a plug in floor heater to heat the room looked in the bathroom stand-up shower no tub we were on a video chat and she was going to get something to eat about 15mins away she ended up finding another place that was $30 cheaper a night had a fully stocked room so she went back to Donoho and canceled her stay and the guy flipped out told her he hired someone to come in and clean that room for her and they don't do business that way well sir I don't do people that way we were going to plan a ride up with several couples to stay a weekend would have been about 10 rooms instead you have gotten this review for being rude to my wife and other people I have read the reviews I hope others do the same and see mine the only reason for the 1 star is cause I had to check one to leave our review
This place was an amazing surprise. My cousin recommended it and it was more than expected. Friendly staff and country style food and clean rooms. Porches and rocking chairs, sitting areas and more. The Ronnie McDowell Entertainment Center on site. Hotel features Ronnie's art. If you are an Elvis fan you will be thrilled as well. Its like going back in time to a simpler time. I have never stayed anywhere like it! Its very impressive for being built in 1914. Taken care of with love and a great staff. Seen Ronnie McDowell's show and it was very entertaining. Modestly priced! Can't wait to visit again. If your timing is right you might get to meet Ronnie himself, he is very warm and friendly.

Great place for burgers if you're staying in the area. We were staying at the Thomas House. Make sure to order the sidewinder fries. The onion rings were fried perfection. Crispy outside. Burgers were cooked right.
Nice little small town grocery store! Very organized, clean and lots of staff working and stocking shelves if you needed help with anything. Prices for some things were of course a bit more expensive than bigger stores that are closer to the city, an
