We have stayed at Donner Lake Village many times. Great place to rest and play. Donner lake is Great Lake to swim, ski and sail in the summer. In the winter skiing at Sugar Bowl, Soda Springs and Donner ski ranch are barely 10 minutes away. We highly recommend!

Nice location right on the lake. We enjoyed our stay in Truckee. |Nice bike path called Truckee River Legacy trail. The room was fine except for the dining table. It had attached stool seating that was unusable.

We go there Every Year for my birthday or anniversary! Not always too busy to just sit and look at the lake! Easy to rent all kinds or water crafts! Kayaking, boats Everything!

This was by far the worst stay at hotel in a very long time…||1) Our confirmation said that check in was at 4pm. On our way to the property, my fiancé getsa call from the front desk at 3:30p wondering if we were going to get soon because there was an event in town and the front desk would be closing at 4:30pm. WTF? You’re a hotel. How are you going to cal ll your guest and tell them they better hurry up because the staff wants to call it quits for the day.||2) After checking in, it appeared that the heater wasn’t working. We thought maybe it was some sort of radiant heating and it might take some time so we left it set to 80° and we went to dinner. When we got back, the room was still cold. Know that the weather was going to drop into the low 50’d that night, I decided that I would call. But since the front desk decided to punch out at 4:30pm, my call got routed to another hotel’s front desk. That person could not help because she wasn’t even familiar with our thermostat. She said she would contact someone from Donner Lake Village and have them cal us back in the room. After waiting 20minutes, we got a call but it’s to my fiancé’s phone. Basically they told us it was too late to call anyone to fix it. That’s it. No offer to move us to another room. No offer to do anything to make our stay more comfortable. The best they could offer was to send someone the next morning. They were supposed to come at 10am but by the time we left at 10:30am, we still hadn’t seen them. Apparently they came later. ||3) So if spending the night in a hotel room with no heat wasn’t enough, the walls are paper thin. Between being cold from not having heat, we also had to listen to the people in the adjacent room cough and sneeze all night.||4) and if all that wasn’t enough, after a night of poor sleep from being cold and being forced to listen to the neighbors, housekeeping is apparently told to disturb the guests at 8am on check out day. I can only imagine that they’re told they can go home early if they get the rooms cleaned so I’m surprised they weren’t banging on our door asking us to leave at 7am.||I will never stay here again. I hope this review will keep people away from the poorly managed property.

Positive: This hotel is in a beautiful location on the shores of Donner Lake. The room was very nice with a kitchen and all the necessities for eating in. There's a wonder nook with a gas fireplace with comfortable chairs and a stunning view of the lane. Negative: No

I stayed in one of the downstairs lake front studios with a kitchenette. The room had everything to prepare meals and the bed was very comfortable. I docked a star because the room was very dated and the walls and ceiling are paper thin. They did provide ear plugs but you could hear everything the neighbors were doing.

One of the best location to stay in this area. Highly recommended. Go for few extra bucks and take the lake view rooms. You deserve this nature's treat. The rooms are good (not great). Room furniture including Sofa bed was old and not very comfortable. But when you can watch a gorgeous sunrise on the lake from the comfort of your bedroom what else you need in a vacation. I would come back again here just for that.

I recently booked a stay at Donner Lake Village for a ski trip, but unfortunately had to cancel my reservation due to a change in my plans. To my disappointment, I was charged a one-night fee for the cancellation, despite it being 4 days away from my scheduled arrival. I just booked the hotel 6 days before my scheduled arrival while the policy is no free cancellation within 7 days. As a frequent traveler, I have stayed in various hotels and have encountered different cancellation policies, but this one seems unreasonable to me. Circumstances can change, and sometimes last-minute changes are unavoidable. Being charged a full night's rate for a cancellation within such a short timeframe feels excessive and unfair. Furthermore, the customer service response to my concern was unsatisfactory. The staff did not show understanding or flexibility, and simply reiterated the hotel's policy without addressing my specific situation. While the hotel itself may have its positives, this rigid cancellation policy left a sour taste in my mouth. As a guest, I expect transparency and flexibility when it comes to cancellation policies, especially for unforeseen situations. Unfortunately, my experience with Donner Lake Village did not meet those expectations. I hope the management of Donner Lake Village reconsiders their cancellation policy and improves their customer service in handling such situations. Until then, I will hesitate to book another stay at this hotel or recommend it to others who value flexibility and understanding in cancellation policies.
