Great gallery in pleasant gardens, even ran into a free outdoor Shakespeare show of the Tempest! Interesting art and things in the Gallery. Well worth spending some time here.
It was pretty nice to be able to adventure in this gallery and gardens for free. It was nice to see all the nature and the sculptures scattered around. They also have some pretty cool art on display at the Dixon gallery.
Beautiful gardens! My kid loved the sculptures placed all throughout. The art gallery is nice. The cafe made us a delicious hot chocolate and a tea. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They allow picnics, so we enjoyed one on the south lawn. Parking is free and easy to navigate. The admission is currently free, so I would encourage anyone to visit.
You MUST visit this Gallery and Garden. I had a wonderful experience and it was free! Yes, it’s free until all of 2023.
When you first walk in to the left are post-impressionist paintings by Sally Hughes Smith: Adrenaline Rush (Jul 16 - Oct 8, 2023). There is also a coffee shop with a sofa and plenty of tables. There is outdoor seating with umbrellas on each side of entrance.
The part of gallery that’s the original residence, display artist like Monet, Degas, Pissarro and more. The security personnel informed me that they rotate the paintings because too many to display at once. It’s simply beautiful. The traveling exhibit is water colors by Zao-Wou-Ki and some of his painted porcelain. The artwork is so colorful and calming.
There is also a large collection of porcelain donated by Warda Stevens Stouts. I truly appreciate Margaret and Hugo Dixon leaving this space to highlight art, nature, and beauty! The garden is about 6 acres and simply beautiful. There are tables and benches throughout. Some are in shaded areas but be prepared for mosquitoes. One was buzzing in my ear. There are many sculptures, several water fountains. They have a outdoor library near rear parking lot.
There is an area that you can rent for receptions, parties, etc.
They have the Dixon Art Camp for a week each summer. A free program for students attending Memphis Shelby County Schools. They create art and learn horticulture. It engages students and families with museum.
This museum has many programs on center days of week and throughout the year. Oh, how I wish I lived in Memphis once again, so I could participate!
I highly recommend visiting so that you can have the same wonderful experience as I did or better!!!
Wonderful small art gallery and gardens that is currently completely FREE to visit, thanks to generous donors. Perfect place to spend an afternoon, especially in nice weather. Great events and classes. Impressive tulip display and the best spring plant sale in Memphis. Friendly staff.
It was so kind of the donor (s) who gave the amazing gift to the residents of Memphis of free admission to the gallery and garden. (Thank you so much) the gardens are lovely and the gallery features both rotating exhibits as well as staples. They have an interactive location for those interested in a hands-on experience. I am not sure if there's usually someone present at these stations but there wasn't when I went through. I believe these stations would be more meaningful with the help of volunteers or docents.
The gift shop is available but prices were not present for most items which is a missed opportunity. How can you decide if you want to purchase an item without prices?!
The coffee shop and bakery were enjoyable. Sadly my drink wasn't available, though on the menu, but the kind barista was quick to over an alternative.
It was an enjoyable day...worth including on your outing list.
One of my favorite places to visit. I love how often the change out their display. Park and Cherry is icing on the cake, or the main attraction depending on your appetite.
I visited from out of town and thoroughly enjoyed the day there, The Dixson is very nice art gallery and the grounds are so beautiful! I saw a really great exhibit on Women's Sporting Fashion from 1800 - 1960. It was a unique and very well curated exhibit. There was also a local designer, professor with her formal dress designs on display, too. The impressionist, permanent collection, which was very nice, is mostly housed in an original old Memphis home. They also have a nice collection of Meissen China, a children's workshop area, a comfy bistro, and if course the beautiful grounds and cutting garden. Unbelievably, this is all free. They also have beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces for weddings and other events. I highly recommend it.

A great museum at the end of Beale street. You just make a donation and take the tour. You can't take pictures but it is an amazing collection of Dr Winters photographs from the Civi Rights era, rock n roll/blues and sports. It is well worth the stop

This place is really neat and would be like a giant playground for kids. There are lots of little buildings to go around and enter. Neat and unique swings along the way. They also still had some flowers even with it being November. Just a nice way to
My family and I were in town and was directed to this cool 20's hotel vibe shop. Staff was very personable, the atmosphere was so cozy and our drinks were on-point. I guess there was a boil alert in the area which kept them from using their main mac
Marvelous old outdoor amphitheater in Overton Park is a great place to watch a concert. Outdoors, so it may be hot during the summer. But when the sun starts to set the trees provide shade. There are food trucks and restrooms. It can be crowded, so
