It was my first time at Din Tai Fung. The quality of the food was amazing - real authentic. No wonder lots of Asian people and friends love this place. The service was not an American standard (that’s good!) it was at a level of restaurants known in Asia - quick, friendly & supporting! As I am well aware of Asian culture and food, but not looking like an Asian guy my friendly waiter Mike (Michael C) made the gap between supporting an first-time-asian-food-eater (be aware of burnt by hot soup in dumplings; prepare the ginger to have a best experience; bringing things without asking!) and an Asian expert 😜 Also the waiter Josh (Ramirez), which was delivering the hot food direct from kitchen was smiling all the way and asking how i like it (e.g. keeping the lid depending on my eating speed, so the dumplings do not get cold.) amazing! Well trained staff and an amazing Team - Thank you Mike & Josh for making me an amazing day!!
I like Din Tai Fung very much. This branch in Torrance is the 4th Din Tai Fung that I visited. The quality of food and service is always the best. I like buns, wotons and noodles. Besides that, I tried kale this time. Nice work.
It gets louder and louder. Impossible to have conversation, not sure why this place is so loud. Normally, I love all the dishes but today's visit just wasn't it. Porch chop was flavorless and tough and the sweet and sour short ribs (looked good) but were fatty (not the yummy kind) and the sauce wasn't good.
It was our first time here and the food was delicious. The beef soup has a sweet broth with very tender beef chunks. I already want more. The spicy cucumbers (They were not too spicy even the kids ate them. We had 4 children and 3 adults in our party. It took about 35 minutes for us to get a seat for 7 which was not bad at all for the place and being a Sunday evening..... I would highly suggest going here , especially if you like the Taiwanese/ Vietnamese soups and noodles.... The bill with a tip was about $300...... thx to my bro n Law, he paid.... :)
Found rodent teeth in the rice they served. Notified staff and they didn’t even deny it, only placated by reducing the cost of the meal. Clearly sanitary kitchen conditions aren’t a priority here. Department of Public health has been notified.
I started out with a Elysian Space Dust IPA, I'm glad they serve it there. I got the Shrimp and Kurobata Pork Wonton Soup, Kurobuta Pork Xiao Long Bao, and Kimchi and Kurobata Pork Dumpling. All were more than fantastic, I would not change a thing. However I did want them spicy so I had to use the chili oil, vinegar, and a little soy sauce. I ordered a couple Cucumber Gimlets (skinny), they were also great, not too sweet. The disappointment was the Xiao Long Bao Sweet Taro Dessert. I tasted like uncooked flour and wasn't sweet at all. I normally like most things with taro. It was only made edible after I ordered the side of Cream Top. The cream so incredible, it was more on the liquid side. I couldn't stop eating the dessert with the cream, even though I was full. All the stuff I ordered was for one person. (Funnily, I am 5'5" 105 lb, though weighed much more after this dining experience.)
We had a reservation at 11:45 and were seated promptly. All of the servers were pleasant. We had soup dumplins, regular dumplins, chicken noodles, spicy wintons, and pork chop fried rice. The food came out fast and in waves which worked out well, it was hot and delicious. We will definitely be back.
soup dumplings are rare to find in the USA. These soup dumplings tasted amazing and looked awesome. The chicken steamed dumpings and spicy potstickers were also good. They have a glass display into the dumpling prep area. Neat to see the cooking process up-close.
