This museum is so well done. They had a lot of interesting artifacts and explanations covering a range of state history. The best thing, though, was the section on black history in DE. Absolutely well done! I learned things that I have never heard before, particularly about the state of schools for the black population 100 years ago, which promoted the Dupont family to reach into their own pockets to make a difference in the lives of these children. I also learned that DE played a role on the plaintiff's side in Brown vs. the Board of Ed, and even information about DE's involvement in the underground railroad. This place is a well-kept secret! Very reasonably priced, as well, and it even has student discounts. I would definitely go again. I'm pretty sure that I didn't even see everything!
Very interesting. Two display rooms. One on Delaware. The other on African American history in Delaware. You need lots of time if you read everything.
This was an interesting museum. I enjoyed the Delaware history exhibits and the African American exhibits. Old Town Hall was also interesting
Not a single word about or from the people and cultures that were there first. History is shown only from the start and perspective of colonisation and civil rights. Important but far from enough!
Very big, very informative. I have been a native to Delaware my entire life, although short I still never knew most of the things brought into the light at this museum. I'm not sure how much regular admission is, but for college students with ID it's only $5. Worth the price, worth the parking meters (parking is along Market St, most are meters, 2 hrs max).
This is the second time I have visited the Museum since it reopened. I love the design with lots of images and text surrounding you as you walk through the exhibit. It was great being there this week for a panel discussion on Race and Education in Delaware. There is important work done here by local leading African American experts in education.
Whenever I visit another city/state I'd check out their museums. I enjoyed the DHM so very much. I'm a southern girl and it gave my heart so much pleasure seeing the dolls representing the "Four Little Girls" of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church bombing. Awesome museum.
Recommend this museum in the heart of Wilmington. Though it's not very large it has a number of interesting artifacts and exhibits. It was informative and well organized. You'll learn some new things and won't have to give up too much of your day.
