Well located hotel, easy to find street parking for free, and the staff were all incredibly nice, especially the gentleman on late night check in when we arrived. The room was basic, but fine- only small issue is there were ants in the bathroom. The staff were helpful about sending someone to clean the room, but it didn't have a massive impact. Overall, good hotel at an excellent price point to explore the city easily.

My family returned to Glendale Express on 2/15/24. The hotel is under construction but not loud, and it is still really clean. My child spilled water all over the hard-surface floor between the two beds - enough that a towel was required to clean it. Although we cringed at using a clean, white hand towel on a hotel room floor, we didn’t have much of a choice due to the amount of water. We were shocked when after wiping up the water, the towel was merely wet but had no dirt or grime on it from the floor. WOW - cleanest hotel room floors I’ve ever seen! ||One small complaint - the beds only have a light blanket instead of a comforter or duvet. The light blanket is too thin and we were cold until we pumped up the heat.

My friends and I have stayed at the Glendale Express two years in a row, when we come down for the Cruel World music festival. We've very much enjoyed our stay both times, even though there was construction/renovations going on. It's a cute old Howard Johnson that has (and still is) been renovated, is no-frills but is clean, comfortable and budget-friendly. There is plenty of parking and it's super close to both the 134 and downtown Glendale. The staff have always been super nice and helpful and I love that there are some amenities for purchase at the front desk (including local beer!) The former HoJo diner/bar has been under construction for ages and I'm really hoping that it will be finished when we come down again this May.||Unfortunately, the Glendale Express is no longer that budget-friendly and I was a bit shocked when I went to make my reservation for this upcoming May and saw that the rates have increased by about $100 a night. I guess every single thing has gotten more expensive, but $100 a night seems like a LOT. I even called the hotel to ask about it and the person who answered had no idea, and said he would ask a manager to call me back, but they never did. As much as I love the GE, I might have to seek more affordable accommodations in the future!

This is the kind of place that would say I would return. My past experiences with reasonably priced hotels in LA have been disappointing, but Glendale Express was different. The property itself is clearly from around the 60's but it has been recently renewed. The hotel has the feeling of a non-chain hotel. The staff is very helpful and caring. Public areas very clean and room also.| |The location was convenient to me (Going to Universal Studios 15 min drive in the morning). I hope they keep up the good work.

The lobby doors are always locked so when checking in you need to wait for them to see you to let you in. Parking can be a challenge at night, they need to light all areas up of parking area. Breakfast here consists if Pop Tarts and coffee only. Bed was comfortable and low too the ground. They offer no cable or local TV. They expect you to connect to your phone and screen cast to TV. I'm on vacation, I don't want to waste my battery to do this and I want to see local info like need, weather, things to do, etc. Also, the toilet handle to flush is in this ridiculous spot and if you have big hands, good luck trying to reach it especially if you leave the toilet paper on the roll, very poor design. No vending machines and limited snack purchase area with no zero sugar sodas and hardly any chips. They do hold a $100 on your card but most places do for a deposit. They have a cute retro theme in the hotel. You can also go out on the balconies and they have an electric tea pot to make coffee or tea in the room. Fridge is retro looking but no microwave in room, only one in the lobby. Room does have a safe. Needs more outlets on side of bed closest to sliding door. Other side of bed has several. We might stay here again but only if needed. Better options are out there.

This hotel is an excellent location, about 15 mins from Universal Studios and LA zoo, a short drive to a really nice mall and right next to a freeway for access elsewhere.|The staff were all friendly and helpful.|The room was really big, we had no issues with space.|However, there were a few downsides.|On the first couple of nights two of us who were sharing a bed received multiple bites, these stopped after we had the room cleaned, but the damage was done and we spent the whole holiday scratching and being very uncomfortable.|There were multiple bugs in the bathroom, from a number of solo ants, to one very large cockroach. We were on the 3rd floor, so it’s not like the just walked in the patio doors, these are coming from somewhere internal.|We ordered a room with a kitchenette, this had a microwave but there were no plates or cutlery, so we could cook food but had nothing to eat with or off.|Our room was also advertised as a superior room with a “bay view” on hotels.com. The only view we had was of the car park, and I couldn’t see any rooms which could have any different. Might want to raise that with external websites if they’re lying. Also advertised were digital TV channels, we couldn’t work out how to get these on at all and we have three IT degrees between us.|The air con is effective, but very noisy. You get used to it after a while, but it’s never quiet.||Overall, I would use this hotel again as it was a decent price, but I would lower my expectations.

I go to the front desk to let the customer service agent know I had extended my stay online and I’d like to merge my current reservation with the new one and also get a parking pass with the updated dates. As I’m talking to him another agent by the name of Tony (big buy with glasses) interrupts us and tells the agent that is helping me just fine and it’s knowledgeable. Tells both of us this has to be the same morning at checkout and that it can’t be done the night before even if the reservation has been paid for. I respectfully say that’s a weird policy since most hotels I’ve stayed at you can stay in the same room and extend the night before without having to go back to the front desk and redo everything the next morning ( some people extend because they want to sleep in). Tony immediately gets really combative and yells in front of other customers really loud “that if I don’t like it, I can go and stay somewhere else!” This man wasn’t even the person that started helping me, I wasn’t even talking to him and he interrupted the agent and I, while Tony was with other customers, maybe he saw me and for some reason didn’t like me, maybe I made him insecure about something who knows. But he obviously has no sense of what his job is, which I’m sure is customer service relations. In the hospitality business people are trained to be nice and smile not be nasty and mean. He seemed very eager to fight and argue and has a lot of yucky attitude. I told him I didn’t need the attitude, I had just come back to the hotel and I am exhausted, I was just trying to extend without having to come back down to the lobby the next morning and the reservation was already paid for online. Then he proceeds to yell in a sarcastic way all the way from the front desk as I am walking out of the door “it is not attitude have a beautiful day!” What a disrespectful, yucky individual. Why even say have a beautiful day when you don’t even mean it! Obviously has no idea what customer service is, Yuck! If you don’t like your job then just quit. No one needs to deal with your yucky attitude while paying good money at this hotel for more than 4 nights and having extended a few times. And yes if I have to run into that type of nasty, street behavior again.. I will HAPPILY take my business to a different hotel where they appreciate customers and treat them with respect and I can have a much more comfortable stay!

Okay the place screams retro cool. From the Font used on the side of the green wall to the mini display case and retro games ... the place is cool. ||The rooms were a bit larger than I expected but in need of a little sprucing up. Speaking only of our bathroom Room 215, the ceiling needed a redo ... badly. The pool is nice as is the hot tub. ||Parking is free and plenty of spaces.||It is very close to a lot of things but not quite walking distance.||Very affordable ... Go ... have fun!
