I had a horrible experience with DATO Technologies when I asked this company to be my Network Administrator. The first issue that I had with this company is that they wanted me to give them my phone carrier's PIN number and the login credentials to my server computer. Please note that these confidential information has nothing to do with setting up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access a server computer remotely. Subsequently, I refused to give them these confidential information. The Sr Network Administrator and the Owner of the company has told me that I don't trust them and so I should find another company to do my networking. There are absolutely much more reputable networking companies who do not ask their clients for confidential information to set up VPN! The second issue that I have with this company is that I have not received any reports from them of the backup services that I have paid for monthly. I was only told when the backup service ended. Most importantly, the third issue that I have with this company is that when they realize that you have knowledge of Networking, then they feel threatened, because they can't tell you just about anything. As such, they will quickly tell you to find another company to do your Networking. I had to inform the Sr Network Administrator and the Owner of the company that I have a Master Degree in Software Engineering Management and a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics & Computer Science and so I have an idea about Networking: This company will do temporary fixes to charge you for maintenance. According to them, they waive the cost of an invoice that they had sent to me. Please note that they only waived the invoice because they realized that I know Networking and that what they have done were temporary fixes so that they can charge for unnecessary fixes. For instance, my Unifi Dream Machine (UDM) Network and Protect applications needed to be updated. I asked this company to transfer the ownership of the UDM to me so that I can check the VPN settings myself. I set UDM Network and Protect applications to update automatically so that I will not have a recurring issues of being unable to access the VPN remotely and so I don’t need constant maintenance. Also, this company had the VPN server address unselected and so I selected it so that when I try to remote into the VPN it would recognize the VPN server address. These fixes that I have done to the UDM have resolved the recurring issues that I had with being unable to access the VPN remotely. Therefore, I no longer receive the VPN error messages, such as the L2TP-VPN Server error and PPP Server error messages. According to the Sr. Network Administrator, I was getting these error messages, because of the ESET firewall that is installed on my server computer. I had to send him how I resolved the issue with the ESET firewall by disabling it permanently instead of doing a temporary fix. In addition, I fixed another network issue wherein my employees were unable to connect to a Customers folder. Unfortunately, because of my experiences with this company, I would never refer them to anyone.
