We went here for lunch on a weekday. No wait time for seating. We ordered six dishes plus Butter Little Bun. Dishes were all in decent portion and came really fast! Both of waitress and waiter served well. Dishes were all delicious,a few of them were even beyond our expectations. We will definitely come again.
Our dining experience was simply fantastic! The "Boiled Spicy Fish Fillet" was a delightful combination of tenderness and flavor, not too overwhelming in spice either. As for the "Squirrel Fish," it had a touch more sweetness than I prefer, but it was still really good. The portion sizes were incredibly generous – two of us couldn't even conquer half of each dish. All in all, a definite must-try!
Sichuan cuisine is an over-used and abused claim in the US, to the point that it's lost its meaning. Now when one reads "Sichuan" one does not consider that they'll be eating anything special. Dan Gui can change that.
Like the hundreds, if not thousands of times before, I did not expect anything distinctively Sichuan at Dan Gui. Much to my delight I was very wrong. Dan Gui proved to be a culinary delight that I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone with a discerning palate seeking an outstanding meal.
To be clear, living in the US, I myself am not experienced with actual Sichuan cuisine. However, if Dan Gui is authentic, then I can instantly understand why Sichuan is so famous, with peppercorn seasoning was so very distinctive and flavorful that one cannot imagine any other way one word use the spice.
In our visit we had the braised fish, lamb, and vegetables. I cannot wait to try others when I return.
As someone who grew up with Sichuanese parents and grew up eating Sichuan food, I came here excited for good food. I was sorely disappointed by a number of things. First and foremost, this was not Sichuan food but a lazy label slapped across what is mediocre Chinese food at best— the spice and depth in flavor were severely lacking. What they lack in flavor was made up for decent portion sizes, but why provide extra of food that is already poor in quality?
The 水煮牛肉 (boiled spicy beef) I ordered came out in a large dish with a giant chip along the border. Immensely greasy, the texture of the beef was spongy and the broth was bland with no flavor profile other than slightly spicy (spicy being an understatement). I also ordered the cumin lamb. It had the flavor of a piece of paper— slight flavor of cumin was all that there really was. Nothing special, and definitely not something I would order again. I also ordered two dry pots (one with large intestine and one with spareribs)— absolutely nothing noteworthy other than how bland it was.
Finally, I ordered their buns with condensed milk. The greasy dough balls dipped in condensed milk was disappointingly the “best” part about the dinner.
The food shows up decently in photos if you turn the exposure all the way up in the weak fluorescent lighting of the restaurant with bare walls save for a few framed photos. There was nothing special about the service either, as you put in your own order on your phone and they just bring the food out.
This place was disappointing at best. I will not be recommending this place to anyone, nor will I be returning.
Found this place on accident but it did not disappoint. I visited on a busy Sunday afternoon. There was a wait, but once I was seated, the food came out relatively quickly-within 10 minutes of ordering. I appreciate that they have an app for ordering and paying so I didn't have to wait for a waiter. If you like Sichuan cuisine, I would definitely give this place a try! They have a waitlist that you can get on during busier times so I suggest doing that.
Big portions! We had left overs for days! The kung pao chicken was spicy and flavorful. The shredded pork and buns were tasty but didn’t have much kick to them. The noodles didn’t really have a flavor or any sauce.
Would recommend the kung pao chicken for sure!
A very authentic Sichuan cuisine on the Eastside. One of the very few Chinese restaurants that I visit back again and again. Nice and clean environment, tasty food and welcoming staff.
Went to the restaurant on a Saturday night. Pretty full. A little wait time, 10 -15 mins. Ordered a few dishes, pics below. All were tasty. The smoked duck w/ tea flavor dish was crispy and full of flavors. It was beyond my expectations. The prices were reasonable. Overall, one of the best Sichuan restaurants in the area in my view.
