Absolutely one of the hidden gems of Detroit.
We came on a Friday night after hearing great things about this place. We have been to Germany before so we knew what to expect going in.
The staff were super friendly and the waitresses had great looking dirndls. Everyone was really fun and friendly and helpful with the menu. They lead everyone in many sing alongs and play live music, many guests tend to sing along.
The food was authentic and really great. I've had schnitzel in Germany and this was made exactly how it would be in Germany. Also you can get it with a mushroom gravy which I never saw in Germany so this place officially makes it better.
The beers were good and they had barenjager shots as well so it was grand.
They have their own fenced in private parking.
The atmosphere is very Bavarian and tons of fun. We cant wait to come back, this is easily one of the best restaurants in Detroit.
Highly recommended.
Quite an experience. The food was very good but could have been a little bit warmer. Granted, they were extremely busy. The service was excellent. Alice did a wonderful job. My only real complaint would be that the noise level was unbearable at certain points. It eventually subsided, and normal conversation resumed. I realize that is the nature of such an establishment.
Family owned for 90 years of excellent quality, friendly, authentic German cuisine. Suggest to visit during Octoberfest...need reservations.....stop in anytime to see how amazing it is. 😀.
Dakota Inn is a classic neighborhood German restaurant. Step in with a group of friends to listen to the piano on the weekend or sit alone at the bar where the bartender will immediately introduce you to the regulars who will ensure you don't eat or drink alone.
One more wonderful Detroit tradition with classic #DetroitFriendly staff and patrons.
The atmosphere and feel of this place just can’t be beat. Excellent German beers on draft and the potato pancakes and spatzle were spot on. The schnitzel was a little bit of a let down. I’ll be back to try some more.
The meat was not the greatest but all the kraut and spaetzle was fire 🔥 - the service and entertainment are like no other!
We arrived at 5:30 pm, didn't realize we needed a reservation. There were plenty of open tables, we just weren't offered one. The one waitress told us we could sit at the bar, so we did. Meanwhile, a few other people came in after us, and they were told it would be a wait, but somehow, those people got to sit at a table. The food was great, just not many choices. They don't serve bread, kinda lame, but they have a pretzel you can buy like at the mall, super Salty though. They don't really allow substitutions on their food, but the waiter we had allowed it this one time. This was a one and done for us. The best thing about the place was the atmosphere, it felt good in there and everyone appeared to be celebrating something.
The atmosphere is great; the place feels very warm and lovely.
If you are thinking about going here, just do it, you will like the place, the atmosphere and the beer.
I would say that this is a very good place to have a beer and good moment with friends, the food is good but not spectacular, maybe it's just me that I'm used to other kinds of food.
The food here is absolutely unmatched. From the flavor to the quality to the service, everything was 10/10. Ali has an ability to treat strangers like family. This restaurant is unreal!! Do yourself a favor and order the Iraqi Kabob, by far the best
