Cypress Inn - Featured Reviews (446)
While the famous Doris Day stayed at this hotel there is no glamour to be found. I laughed at the reviews that praised everything but the rooms themselves. The rooms and bathrooms are tiny and sounds from your neighbors can be heard. I specifically measured the distance between the pedestal sink's edge and toilet seat at 18 inches. There is no counter space for personal items in the bathroom. Furniture is showing its age so I preferred to leave my clothes in my suitcase. The building retains solar heat even when cool outside making it hot at night despite open windows and a ceiling fan. The rooms start at about $ 400 USD per night. Self served breakfast is included with sufficient options of only fair quality. We knew there would be hotel guests with dogs and they were well behaved, including the dogs. Don't expect your room to provide an ambience reflective of common areas. No matter how charming the town may be this is not a hotel worth its asking rate. As such we'd never return.
We just returned from a 3 night stay. In response to the the review just below mine, in which it stated that the rooms do not "provide an ambience reflective of common areas", I whole-heartedly disagree. It just depends on your chosen room type.||We happened to be staying in a standard two-queen room on the second floor, in the original 1929 built section of the building. Our extended family was staying in a larger King Suite room, presumably in a newer section of the building. (I didn't ask the bellman for details, but when he helped us with our luggage, he referenced that our room was in the "original section"...implying that there was a newer section).||All I can say is, what a difference in rooms. Our room, while nice, was very small. And yes, I'll agree with the review below mine, the bathroom was extremely small. While I did not take measurements like they did, I did give the shower my "chicken wing" test. | While standing in the shower, lifting my bent-arms up in a chicken wing style, my elbows hit side-to-side on the shower walls, before they were even up 90 degrees. TIGHT space. No fridge. And finally, in our room, no A/C. ||Our extended family's King Suite was the exact opposite.....vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, very roomy, separate sitting area, large bathroom, A/C, and a fridge. So all of this to say, some rooms DID provide the ambience of the common areas. Just not the more-affordable queen rooms.||Location of the hotel is great. Total vibe of the hotel is fantastic. Especially if you like dogs. If you are not a dog owner, or at least a dog-lover, you may want to pass.||One negative of the hotel that I must mention: there are no dedicated parking spaces or a dedicated hotel parking lot. There IS a small gated lot approximately one block away that has about 12 parking spaces in it dedicated to the hotel's guests. But getting a "clicker" to be able to use this space is like winning the lottery. You have to ask for it early, be placed on a waiting list, and then cross your fingers that you are a chosen one. There's simply more guests than parking spots available.....this made for a less than ideal experience. I'm sure I have a parking ticket or two coming my way any day now.||But aside from the parking situation, our overall stay was great. Two-thumbs up for the Cypress Inn.
We enjoyed our two night stay at the Cypress Inn in Carmel by the Sea. Lots of positives to mention. Our corner room on the second floor was nice and had a fireplace (July) . They kept a bowl of fruit and snacks full and also a bottle of water. They provide a bottle of sherry for your enjoyment too. We ate once at their restaurant and it was good. We had breakfast each morning (included) and it was very good. The staff were always friendly and helpful.||They have a fair amount of free entertainment and we enjoyed this in their parlor one evening. The location is great and we ate once a 7th and Delores a short walk from the hotel.||The hotel is pet friendly and there were a lot of pets.||The downside for the hotel is that they have no parking. So you have to park at least two blocks away to get out of the two hour city parking zone and in our case that was never less than four blocks. They have an elevator but there are a few steps after that to get to the actual level of your room (at least in our case). ||The positives outweigh the negatives and we would recommend the hotel.
Everything about this place is a Y E S ! I was taking a mini trip with my yorkie just to get away, Carmel to San Francisco and back, I wanted a nice drive and just to decompress. I only needed one night and they have a two night policy. Well they made it work anyway! Without missing a beat they accommodated. It’s not cheap but it’s so worth it. Spend the $400-$600 a night and stay here. They are beyond dog friendly and so kind to your dog. They are known for that but it is extremely apparent in their client interactions that they embody a love of dogs. Dogs are welcomed everywhere as they should be and everything was flawless. We stayed in an adorable cottage style room off to the side near the patio and it was perfect. Details abound, cozy fireplace and huge bed, complimentary dessert liquor if you drink (which we don’t) but still a nice touch. My dog thoroughly approves and we thank you for a lovely time. We will be back for a longer stay next time!
Great shops everywhere, I had no problem dropping money at every random place 🤦🏻♀️He got new hair bows 🎀some new toys 🧸 and the restaurant dog menus around the area are amazing!!!
Incredible location...incredible live music...incredible food...and I love that the Owner (Denny) still honors Doris Day by playing Doris Day movies all day in the restaurant! Sooo Cool! Love all the movie memorabilia and his collection of cool toys! (no other hotel in the world has any of this!) Love the Cream Sherry they give you in the rooms and you can go to the Bar and get a soft drink, juice or coffee for free anytime! Dogs, dogs and more dogs...which I love and was never an issue! (which I thought it might be) Booked my room for next year again!
I researched so many hotels in Carmel and chose this one because of the location. It was wonderful! We did a deluxe room for the AC. The air conditioning unit worked great. The bathroom was large, bed was comfortable, and the room was very clean! We also had complimentary water in the room, and the location couldn’t be beat! We were right in town. The front desk was great! You can also call the day you plan to arrive to see if they have parking (for a charge). Excellent stay!
The Cypress Inn is a fabulous dog-friendly inn! Staff is wonderful. Great breakfast included (serving times for the different options are staggered in the morning) where you can sit indoors or outdoors on a nice patio with your pooch. While they do have a limited parking lot for an additional fee, expect to park on the street which can have time limits. But you can unload/load your luggage at the inn front entrance and the staff will gladly assist you. I loved staying above the restaurant patio--there was live jazz on a Sunday afternoon. But if you want to avoid the restaurant noise in the evening, try requesting a room away from it. I'm sorry now we didn't have dinner at the inn restaurant--the food looked good!
My doggies and us love this place we have stayed for few nights in the past and is lovely to see so many dogs around. Everyone is super nice and the service is great. I specially want to thank the restaurant manager and all the crew for showing us that they really love dogs and they are welcome and loved there. We had an incident at the outdoor area of the restaurant this past weekend and you guys handled beautifully. This time we only came to have lunch and We were following the waitress to get our table and as soon as we enter a woman sitting on a table told my husband that we needed to find some other table because one of my dogs was too loud. That of course broke my heart. The waitress found another table for us and few people from the crew and the manager herself came to apologize because clearly those customers did not represent what Cypress inn is well known for. Ismael our waiter brought a drink on the house and was very kind the whole time.
I was sad to see that there are cruel people with zero empathy for a pup with a breathing health condition.
He just needed to lay down to breath normal again but a hater is always going to hate... Anyways, thanks Cypress Inn we can't wait to be back again.

Such a pleasant stay at Tradewinds! This is a dog friendly inn on Mission street, just a few blocks from great shopping and dining. The hotel was quiet and my room had partial (and beautiful!) views of the ocean. The check in service was great and ea
My favorite beach on the California coast! I prefer it in the winter when it's less crowded. There's always, always, people on it though. Beautiful waves, soft sand, lots of space to walk at low tide. It's a great place to bring your dog but be aware
Sophisticated and cool with unusual, unique, quality merchandise. Several lines are Italy direct exclusives. I went in to purchase their vegetarian make up (no chemicals) and the soy based nail colors but found so much more. There are gift items for
Nice little town on the way to Big Sur! Each of the shop and/or property here are aesthetically decorated and taking a walk worths it. Free street parking available for limited time frame so watch out. Several gas stations and restaurants are around
Really perfect place for kids to play. The water is warm and clean, and there are a lot of pelicans resting in the river. Besides, you may explore the sea creatures in the rock such as crabs, hermit crab, fish, and sea ââurchin. You can also rela
