Magical, mystical, historical, natural, beautiful, there are just not enough superlatives to describe our time on Cumberland Island.
We saw horses, sharks, armadillos, loads of birds, and butterflies. The rangers and volunteers were incredibly helpful and friendly.
We were worried that just spending an afternoon on the island would not be enough but it allowed us to dip our toes into the history of the island, Georgia and the US whilst enjoying amazing nature.
Hiking and camping, Some of the sites are full of ticks and mosquitoes. Others have beautiful views and few bugs. Tours and ferries are great. No trash cans, so plan on taking out everything you bring in. Wild horses are all around the island.
Great place to watch wildlife at a closer distance- armadillos(more armadillos than squirrels lol), wild turkey, wild horses, deers, and they were so oblivious of my presence just wandering around! I camped at seashore campsite and it was equipped with food storage cabinet(for raccoons), fire ring and two picnic tables. There’s also bathrooms and drinking water on this campsite. The sea camp ranger station has wagons that you can use to tow your camping equipment (I used one for collecting firewoods along the way). Caution that from dungeness walking to the parallel beach access is excruciating in the summer- a long walk in soft sand, no shade-make sure you have enough water if you decide to pick this route. Choosing the sea camp beach access is much better; ranger station has rocking chairs, drinking water and bathroom, is a good place to chill; bug spray is a must, and still, be ready to get mosquito (and potentially tick) bites.
This is an amazing island and a great park! We had the best experience camping. This was our 2nd year. I can't wait for the new bath houses at Sea Camp!
Beautiful island to visit that has a lot of wildlife all over to explore! So many trails to go around the island and worth spending the a day or two! There is a tour on the first ferry stop which is definitely worth doing as the park ranger takes you from the dock to the Dungeness Ruins which is amazing! The access to the beach can be challenging with the heat and humidity which I recommend taking the boardwalk to the beach instead of going through the dunes! The beach is incredible to walk as there are miles of no people along the coastline! Highly recommend exploring this beautiful park! Make sure to bring bug repellent as there are a lot of mosquitoes as you walk through the trails! If you have a National Park stamp book, make sure to bring it as there are a few stamps at the Sea Camp Dock!
Beautiful and peaceful. I was told when I arrived at the park that I would be the only one camping during my stay. (I camped there during the early part of December) Strange to feel as if I had the place to myself.
The beach is incredible and there are a number of nice trails throughout the park. There is plenty of wildlife to see and the solitude was absolutely wonderful. I highly recommend a visit to this park.
The only thing that surprised me a little was just how bad the ticks were. So, make sure to use some form of tick repellent if you plan on hiking in the wooded areas.
Cumberland Island National Seashore is quite literally a treasure. It has so many eras of history, wild horses, plenty of recreation opportunity, and still some private amenities too (if you have those pockets!). A ferry ride over will drop you off at one of two stops, and directly back in time.
There are plenty of hiking trails and walking paths, whether you are ready for a short walk to the beach or a multi-day backpacking trip to the wilderness area on the north end. A short walk to the Dungeness Ruins is also worth packing a picnic for. Can’t make it all the way to the beach? Spend some time wandering the ruins, the salt marsh boardwalk, and keep and eye out for the wild horses and deer too. Check out the website too for additional tours the National Park Service offers.
One of the most beautiful places in the world... I'm convinced of that. I've been coming here for many years, and it never disappoints.

This place is truly a real bakery - quality and delicious sweet choices. Breakfast burritos, quiche, donuts, cookies, baked fresh bread, coffee, muffins, breakfast and lunch. Menu in the pictures
First time going was surprisingly impressive. Coming from a convenient store you wouldn't expect to find this kind of fresh food. I ordered a Grilled Chicken Salad that was absolutely amazing. The chicken was cooked in front of me and the salad was l
Oh my goodness the butter pecan French toast is to die for! The La Bamba burrito is very tasty. This will definitely be a spot we come back to! Literally forgot to get a photo when it came out because it all smelled so good. ð¤¤
This is such a lovely historic home! The tour was amazing and even covered the icemaking technology used in the early 1900s. The original wall paper is gorgeous and the wood is so beautiful! When we went we also saw wild horses and some very cool sea
