SHAME. This is what is wrong with America. The quick fixes, bandaiding the exterior without fixing the problem!! Our baby girl was born with a pretty serve flat side on her right side. Our pediatrician recommend at 6 months to just go get an opinion even though the flat spot improved. So we did our due diligence and went by their referral. We did not choose this place by our own research. This is what they told us: 1. Her head was moderately serve 2. Her head WILL NOT get better. The claimed the head will ONLY keep growing in the direction it is already establishing. (This was a huge red flag for me 🚩given her head already improved so much since birth) 3. They also made us feel like it was so urgent. This should be done NOW or asap or it'll be too late 4. She won't be able to normally wear things like glasses or helmets, or other potential head gear. 5. It will not effect her muscle or brain development They followed up with me by a slew of phone calls, emails and texts instead of actually letting us think about it. So I wanted a 2nd opinion. I set an app. With Lurie Children's Hospital (they have a local outpost in Northbrook, IL). We met with a plastic surgeon & a physical therapist. Not only were they nice but they were also honest and realistic. They basically countered everything Cranial Technologies had to say. Our daughter is still developing & showing improvement and they classified her as MILD and determined she was meeting her milestones and muscle development. My primary concern was if it would result in her having a weaken muscle on the flat side and they showed me her normal and good muscle growth. They would have recommended at-home exercises/stretches if she needed them but they didn't even feel like she needed that!!! Their program is called the "Head Shape Evaluation" program and it can be run through your insurance. If insurance won't cover the app., Lurie's has payment assistance that you can look into. Always get a 2nd opinion if you have a funny feeling!! And maybe from experts & people dedicated to helping you solve issues naturally FIRST and not to a company where the only thing they do is sell you helmets to depend on their livelihood... Stupid corporate America.

I took my son here after getting a referral from my pediatrician. They told me right away that he absolutely needed a helmet!! They said his ears were uneven and he had a slight flat spot on the back of his head. I was surprised by this and they really convinced me he needed a helmet. The clinician that evaluated him was an RN, not an Orthotist or MD. In fact, there was no doctor or Orthotist on staff. How can an RN make this kind of clinical recommendation for this treatment? I decided to get a second opinion from Chicago Pediatric Orthotics right in the building next door, who did NOT recommend a helmet. I then took my son to a Pediatric Surgeon, Dr. Vicari who also said he absolutely DOES NOT need a helmet. He recommend more tummy time. This was a bit of a roller coaster for me, but in the end I'm satisfied I got a second opinion. I recommend you get a second opinion from a doctor before deciding to go a head with a helmet. Your child may not need it or may need surgery and the helmet could make it worse. This place is owned by venture capitalists who make a ton of money off selling these helmets. Glad I didn't fall into the trap.

My daughter treated at the Skokie clinic and the entire staff was kind, informed, and greeted us by name. We just graduated from the DOC Band and we achieved excellent results and would recommend Cranial Technologies to anyone seeking a head shape evaluation and treatment for an infant with a flat head/plagiocephaly. The technology here is impressive and designed for infants with plagiocephaly and the clinicians are the experts in treating plagiocephaly which resulted in a quick and easy treatment and amazing results. The staff made us feel like family and we will miss seeing them at our adjustment appointments!

My Daughter Amelia was born with Torticollis which greatly impacted the way her head was growing and forming. My pediatrician recommended Cranial Technologies in Skokie. I am beyond thrilled with the staff. Every single person there is well educated and super nice. I have seen amazing improvements with the use of her DOC Band. I highly recommend this office. They have great Covid 19 safety measures in place. Text when you arrived and wait in car for room to be sanitized. They text you when they are ready for you to enter the office. Temperature checks in waiting area. Masks must be worn in office and hand sanitizer is available. One adult and child is allowed in at visit. I appreciate the extra caution especially when it comes to children. Thanks for always going above and beyond.

There are no medical doctors on staff and there are cases where your child could have fused sutures and the helmets will make it worse. Cranial Technologies recommended my son be placed in a corrective helmet. Luckily we got a 2nd opinion from a pediatric plastic surgeon who diagnosed him with Sagittal Synostosis which required surgery and had we gone in a helmet it would have made it worse. Children need to be seen by medical professionals to rule out craniosynostosis before going here.

Everyone that works here are is accommodating and helpful. We had such a great experience and are thrilled with the results. Our daughter was in her band for about 2 months. Our son also came here about 3 years ago for a band and the experience was equally as great.
