Cracker Barrel Old Country Store - American restaurant in Mattoon - 1101 Charleston Ave E, USA

I went to the Cracker Barrel at 2 pm. on a Wednesday, and they were slightly busy. They had me and my friend seated within a couple of minutes. I ordered the cou try fried steak with mashed potatoes (white gravy) and Cole slaw. The steak was pretty average, but the mashed potatoes were bad. Overall my meal was pretty good and the service was on par.

We are regular customers and really love Cracker Barrel. We have noticed recently, however, that this particular Cracker Barrel is not as good as it used to be. We got our food and were not given silverware. We were told there were no biscuits at the time, but that they would bring us some as soon as they were ready. We had to ask again later for biscuits and finally received some when we were almost finished with our meal. During a different visit, we were told there was no bacon. At yet another recent visit, the line to pay wrapped around and into the dining room and didn't move for probably 5-10 minutes. My mother was visiting from out of town where she works in a different Cracker Barrel store. She was shocked at the issue with the line. She ended up paying on the app, much to her dismay. Just lots of disappointing experiences at the Mattoon location. We hope things improve, because it is truly one of our favorite restaurants.

This was my first visit to a C.B and I was gravely disappointed. Our chicken special was very dry as if it was previously made than re-baked or fried, very dark brown coating that was hard n super crunchy as over fried batter would be. The broccoli casserole was a salty mush just globbed in the bowl, and my children's grilled cheese was very hard around the edges, not just crispy but over done hard. They took q bite n that was it. I was not impressed, and when we spoke up all we got was a "I'm sorry about that" from our server and he walked away not coming back to our table after that.

We had an excellent waitress. She was so attentive that I tipped her more than I have tipped in years. We went the day before Christmas. The parking lot was almost full, but we did not have to wait to get served. My friend mentioned we got quickly served because there was just the two of us. I thought, now that made since. Dummy me.

Well, I wasn’t going to post a review as I had contacted the company, but seeing as the company hasn’t reach back out in a timely manner here we go. I was on lunch break and came in with my mom and my aunt who are both elderly, we were place in the farthest corner of the dinning room in the way back. Our server was absolutely amazing and attentive and tried to meet all our needs. But sadly that’s the only plus in this experience. We asked to speak with a manager and this poor girl tried very hard to make that happen but it still took almost 15 minutes for someone to come speak with us. This was after we had waited about 45mins to an hr for our food. When speaking with the manager about the wait she was very rude and talked down to us and snatched my to go box of food off the table stating she was comping it and I could just pay for my drink. When the server stopped by while the manger was there she was also very rude to our server and spoke down to her like the server didn’t know how to do anything and was the one messing everything up. I was absolutely appalled by the way this manger was speaking to staff and customers alike. Whoever this manager is definitely put a bad taste in my mouth when I think about coming here now. What once was a favorite spot to dine is a place I will never spend my money again.

We were seated at the smallest table. Tried ordering chicken and they were out. 2nd time this had happened. Husband ordered pork chop to be later told it was a weekly special. Ordered sweet tea. They were out and when it was brewed and brought out it was warm and no ice. Had to ask for ice. Ordered big boy breakfast with toast. Never got toast and the biscuits and gravy that come with it were forgotten. Still charged full price. Will never return. What a joke.

After visiting the restaurant today, I don't think I will ever visit it again. The service was beyond bad. Instead of the two ordered meals, I received one. The waiting time was 40 minutes. I received the second ordered meal after another 20 minutes of waiting. However, this time the waitress didn't put it on my table, she just threw the plate on the table. I didn't hear a single word from her, sorry for the misunderstanding. I reported the entire incident to manager and this lady was the only one who acted very professionally. To sum up... good food, terrible service (in my case) and very long waiting time.  Feedback Apps

Delicious food, great atmosphere, decent portions. Our waitress was efficient and we enjoyed looking around the store. They are always busy it seems like no matter what day or time you go. In the winter time I love when the fire is going in the fireplace.
