Courtyard Valdosta - Hotel in Valdosta - 1564 Baytree Rd, USA

The staff is friendly, that’s the best part of this hotel! The hotel is old and hasn’t been updated in years, I was shocked! The tub with shower didn’t drain the water. Had to have the plumber come….the telephone didn’t work, told them on our way out! No toiletries, except the body wash bolted down in the tub. The refrigerator didn’t get cold. I’ve stayed at other Marriott courtyards that were really nice, this one was a big disappointment and it wasn’t exactly cheap!

The Courtyard hotel was well below the standard expected for a Marriott establishment. Despite the high price of $244 per night, which I paid for two nights during a soccer match my daughter was participating in, the quality of the facilities was severely lacking. Upon arrival, I was greeted by unkempt grounds and exterior areas littered with trash. Although the front desk staff were friendly, the cleanliness issues persisted. The elevator was dirty, with trash strewn about, and the hallway on our floor was stained and littered with random debris. Entering our room, we were immediately hit with a strong odor reminiscent of baking soda, which suggested attempts to mask unpleasant smells or potential mold problems. The bathroom was dirty, with noticeable brown stains on the wall near the toilet. I had to buy alcohol wipes to clean the sink area. The overall condition of the room was poor, with signs of age and neglect evident throughout. Despite adjusting the AC unit to a cool 66 degrees, the room never reached a comfortable temperature. We requested a room change, but unfortunately, no other accommodations were available. Throughout the night, my daughter and I struggled to sleep due to the discomfort caused by the inadequate cooling and the thin walls that allowed us to hear our neighbors' snoring from 2 am to 4:47am and even conversations that morning at 5:45 am. It felt as though we were staying in a hostel rather than a reputable hotel. Considering the substandard conditions, I feel that the hotel was not worth even $100 per night, yet I ended up paying $567 for two nights. I was deeply disappointed with the experience and would have switched to a Hilton hotel nearby if rooms had been available.

Staying at this hotel was both a strange and awkward experience. The hotel is not off the exit so was very difficult to find, with little signage or directions. The front desk staff, while polite, seemed unsure about check in and was unable to answer any questions regarding charges or billing. The night staff was very hard of hearing and I needed to repeat myself often. The hotel was extremely quiet with very few cars in the parking lot. There was one woman wrapped in blankets and laying on the sofa in the lobby, but that was the only human being I saw other than front desk staff. It felt like I was the only guest in the hotel, sharing the lobby with a homeless lady. The rooms were clean but clearly dated with an attempt to make them appear Modern. There is a sign in the lobby directing you to the pool and whirlpool, but they don’t have a whirlpool. Maybe they should spend the money and order a new sign? The shower head was useable but loose and almost falling off the wall. The beds were not uncomfortable but average at best. The front desk staff did provide extra towels with a smile upon request. Parking was not a problem as the hotel did not have many, if any, guests other than myself. The internet would not connect so I ended up using a personal hotspot. It was not a horrible stay but, if traveling again, I will look for another Marriott property or another hotel chain. I stayed for the Marriott Bonvoy reward points but definitely overpaid for an “okay” experience.

Positive: Location Negative: Our room flooded and our clothing left wet. The response was yes we are aware the first floor is flooded so we'll move you to another room. We were told a clothing dryer was available to dry our clothes. We were charged the full amount. Unacceptable.

It advertised a hot tub... it doesn't say that it's been filled with dirt and is now a flower bed. I came here only for the hot tub. The fire pit is nice and so is the small gym. I liked our standing balcony as well The location is good, across the street from the mall and less than 5 minutes from all of the stores.

Let’s face it they’re aren’t many options in Valdosta so the bar is low to begin with. While the rooms were ok the setup was really odd having a TV parallel to the bed so you could barely watch it and too far from the couch to see it out of bed. The amenities are limited here but it does have a pool for the Georgia heat atleast. However if you’re a Marriott elite member (gold/platinum) don’t expect that to matter. The hotel was barely filled and I was given a first floor room a few doors down from the front desk in which you could hear every word all night as well as from other rooms as the walls are paper thin. I wasn’t expecting a penthouse when I checked in but having high floor listed on a profile and given arguably one of the worst rooms just hits differently when you’re in the middle of nowhere.

**Purpose of the Trip:** |I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in Valdosta, GA, using it as a resting point between family events at Moody AFB and my brother’s house in Hira.||**Location:** |The hotel’s location is relatively convenient for accessing I-75, providing easy access to Moody AFB. Although it's a bit further from the highway entrance compared to other hotels, the extra two-minute drive is worth it for safety. The highway on-ramp road nearby is notoriously unsafe, especially at night, so this Courtyard’s location earns high marks for offering a safer alternative. Having almost been mugged at a nearby gas station, this aspect significantly influenced my positive view of the location.||**Staff and Service:** |Unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. The front desk staff were not very attentive, and I found myself waiting multiple times to purchase a drink because no one was available. This lack of attention is a significant downside in an otherwise decent hotel.||**Room Experience:** |The room itself was underwhelming. Upon check-in, I encountered a broken door handle, making it difficult to enter despite the green indicator on the card reader. The staff's casual acknowledgment of the door issue suggested a recurring problem rather than an isolated incident. Housekeeping also disappointed; they left a handwritten note explaining they couldn’t clean the room due to a hat and a clean shirt on the bed—an unnecessary inconvenience.||**Interior and Amenities:** |The rooms are reminiscent of early 2000s Courtyard designs, with some modern touches like the signature “half-circle” couch. Basic amenities include a bed, dresser, microwave, and desk. The bathroom, though dated, was clean and had good water pressure.||**Comfort and Layout:** |The bed and TV setup were less than ideal. The mattress was too soft for my liking, and the overly soft pillows required stacking for adequate support. The TV’s placement, parallel to the bed and about two feet away, made it difficult to watch comfortably. Swiveling the TV towards the couch helped slightly but wasn't an optimal solution. Marriott’s design choice here is questionable and detracts from the overall experience.||**Outdoor Amenities:** |Outside your room, you’ll find a fitness center I didn’t try but which looked pretty good for a smaller hotel. There’s a pool and a garden-like walkway outside. The ambience of the walkway, given the hotel’s location in a highway commercial zone, was surprisingly pleasant and allowed me to take some work calls without sitting in my room. This pathway is part of the exterior pool area, which is gated for safety—a nice feature if traveling with kids. It had decent loungers and a table and chairs. While no one should expect a resort pool in Valdosta, the area was clean, quiet, and usable—a win in the 90+ humid heat. I didn’t use the pool, but it looked clean, which is a win all around.||**Hotel Status Recognition: Check-in to Checkout:** |Despite my status and high-floor preference noted on my account, I was assigned a first-floor room near the front desk in a half-empty hotel. Given my mobile check-in the day before, it was frustrating not to receive an upper-floor room. Arriving at midnight, I didn’t push for a room change, but it highlighted a disregard for guest preferences. Checkout was good with the staff being accommodating to my late checkout request, allowing me to stay until 4 PM due to the ceremony at the base. While check-in lacked elite status recognition, the late checkout showed this strongly. This indicates that service quality may vary by employee. Special thanks to the front desk employee (I forget her name) working Thursday the 7th in the afternoon for meeting Bonvoy expectations.||**Overall:** |The Courtyard by Marriott in Valdosta is a reasonable choice in a city where hotel options are limited. While there were notable issues, particularly with service and room layout, the hotel’s safety and basic comfort make it a passable option. With more Bonvoy consistency, it could be a stronger choice for travelers. I am ambivalent about returning but wouldn't rule it out entirely.||Safe travels!

*The room was warm and uncomfortable when it was in the mid 80's outside until I realised they had the heat on not the AC. *I asked not to have daily room service but they came anyway. *One of my water glasses had a huge chip in the top but when I sat it out to show them to throw it away it was put right back for me to use. *At the price of the rooms I would have expected that the coffee and breakfast would be free but they were not. I have stayed at other places in Valdosta that were much better so I will be returning to them.
