A heads up about the construction would have been nice. But I suppose they would lose bookings if they told everyone. The entrance and lobby were completely gutted. You had to rub up against the plastic sheets in order to check in. The plastic sheets were installed to keep the front check in from getting dusty. But because they were so close to the check in, the dust was now on the people checking in. The room was very spacious. That was a pleasant surprise. With a little extra cleaning practices it would have been easy to give a 4 or higher rating for the room. The overall room condition was great, clean. However, the AC unit and the bathroom were the weak point of the visit, aside from the construction. I am not sure if it is from all of the dust in the AC/Furnace or the amount of concrete dust from the completely gutted entrance/lobby but it took a couple days for my sinus to clear up. It could also be from the mold in the bathroom.

I usually give places the benefit of the doubt but this will not be the case here. We had a non-refundable reservation (made that day on the road). When I stepped up to the counter to check in I saw a sign saying that the pool and hot tub were out of service. When I did my search for a hotel on several different websites (including the Choice Hotels website) I specifically asked for pool, hot tub and gym. The sign on the desk and on the door to the pool area looked to be very old!! So if they had been out of of service for a while I would expect that there is some form of warning for this. But maybe that is too much to ask. Check in was quick and easy desk clerk friendly. While looking for the gym I found the ice machine by gym was also out of service. Again all of the sign’s look like they have been there for quite a while!. Our room was very large and clean. However, 2 of the ceiling lights (not sure if CFL or LED) buzzed loudly every time they were turned on. My wife went to the gym in the morning but treadmill didn’t work. We didn’t do breakfast in the morning. It did not look so great. There was plain oatmeal but nothing to put in it. Another annoyance was that the fridge in the room froze our veggies but NOT our ice packs!! So that is $15 lost!! I will add that this is the second Choice hotel that we have stayed in that had an out of service pool without putting that information on websites.

Positive: The staff were so helpful and accommodating. Maintenance got a new light bulb within 12 hours of my request. The kitchen guy was extremely good, if I said I needed something, he ran into the kitchen and grabbed it. The staff were there to serve you. Negative: A bench in the outdoor smoking area fell backwards when I sat on it. I didn't know one of the legs was not on the concrete, held in place, but in mulch behind it. I was fine but rather unsettled.

We came here instead of an airbnb because we wanted to let the kids swim before our game. Pool was closed. I called 3 days ahead and asked if I could cancel but because we prepaid I couldn't cancel at all. The hotel is just poorly kept. Our room was mostly clean, except the bathroom which had toothpaste on the counter from a previous guest. I tried to turn the heat on because it was cold when we got there and it smelled like the room would catch on fire if I let it run and the smell unfortunately didn't go away through the rest of the night. Tv didn't want to work most of the night. Room is outdated, plug ins are all sketchy and no USB ports. For whatever reason my phone couldn't get a good charge the whole weekend but did fine in our truck. Half the building is under construction. Beds hard and uncomfortable. Not a great stay and for what we paid I'd expect much better.

Stayed on 5/9 because my mom had a major surgery scheduled at CenterPoint on 5/10 and the location was prime. We started off in room 210 and had to request a new room because there was mold in the shower and a shower for my mom was a must. They then moved us to room 104 which was better than the first but still had small amounts of mold in it. I showed the attached picture to the woman working at the desk when we checked out and while she was apologetic I didn’t feel like it was a sincere as it should have been considering the harm caused by mold. It felt more like she was trying to appease me than actually being concerned. The beds were very comfortable and had my mom not had the heat set to 80 I think I would have had a very good nights sleep.

When pulling up to the hotel, the area looked sketchy. Probably because there is an overgrown empty lot in front of it. It made me hesitant to go inside. Luckily it was much nicer inside the hotel. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. The only real complaint I had was this hotel claims to be dog friendly but there isn’t really an area for dogs. ||This hotel is not fancy and is probably similar to most of the hotels in the area. The location was good and there were a lot of restaurants nearby. It was fine for my one night stay.

The room was clean and in good condition - complete with TV, refrigerator, and coffee assortment. We've been driving all day and booked our room expecting to use the pool and hot tub listed on their website only to find that they are both closed for service. We live in a more tech-savvy world, and features like pool/hot tub availability should be easily known by reading amenities on the hotels site. This was very disappointing.

First of all, I want to say that the gentleman at the front desk when we checked in Wednesday 6/19 at 6pm was AWESOME and so helpful! We brought him a cookie because he really helped us. That being said, someone was actively smoking pot and our whole floor/elevators/lobby reeked. I smelled it on the guy who checked in ahead of me and I asked to not be anywhere near that room. Since we were getting three rooms I think we were unable to avoid being near him. Even if it’s legal there is no excuse for smoking it in a hotel. It’s so inconsiderate and I hope the hotel charged a hefty cleaning fee for those folks. Everyone around us was just gagging. It’s not ok. We mentioned it, so did many others, but I don’t think anything was done about it because the smell only got worse. The front desk attendant in the morning of 6/20 was rude when I asked him for a receipt for my three rooms. Maybe I’m just used to southern hospitality. I’m easy to please and I always focus on the positive but the pot and the coming and going of random people all throughout the night in that one room was scary because I had teenagers with me. We had to ask them to go in pairs in the hallway. Again, front desk guy the first night is the only reason I wouldn’t blast this place and demand my money back. I’ve never done that before but I would do it if it weren’t for his help and hospitality. Give him a raise!! Other than that—DO BETTER!!

Very informative tour of the home of the Truman's!! The inside is the same as it was when Mrs Truman passed in 1982. No picture taking allowed in the home itself. I was surprised to see one reviewer must have snuck in picture taking of their visit. T
