Columbia Plateau Trail State Park - Cheney Trailhead - State park in Cheney - 19087-19099 S Cheney Spangle Rd, USA

My wife and I did an out-and-back from Cheney to Amber Lake (approx 24 mi. Total) and only encountered one other trail user. The trail surface is a little rough in parts, you’ll want at least a 2” tire to ride comfortably over all the crushed gravel and larger rock sections. That said, the views of the wildlife refuge are beautiful and Amber Lake was a nice place to relax and have a snack before returning to the Cheney Trailhead.

If you take a right from the main trail entrance, it only goes about 3.7 miles and then you have to turn around as there’s a private entrance passing the railroad crossing where the restroom is. If you go left at the main trailhead it’s all gravel. you will hit the gravel road and that’s where the 20 some odd miles to ride is. Lots of Robin’s 🐦 playing chicken, lol beautiful view of the lake and the water is a little water is over the trail that is paved. Overall a pretty nice ride but I didn’t get to ride the gravel Section just the paved section.

Nice path, very little slope, and good surface for walking. Probably great trail for running also, considering how consistent the surface was.

Nice little spot for long walks, biking, and running. Paved main trail with several routes to explore. Lots of wildlife in the area to see so always bring a camera. Careful of rattle snakes! The draw back is the spit is not well marked and comes up quick from main road.

Pleasant paved trail between Cheney and Fish Lake, but does NOT connect to remaining trail to Spokane! Poorly maintained as weeds are out of control along the path.

We drove to Cheney trailhead and rode 7 miles roundtrip on paved path that's just lovely. There is a picnic area off trail a bit by the lake. It's a hope for the future to get bike trail extended from Government Way and Sunset Blvd trail head to go all the way through to the actual lake since its Fish Lake trail.

Great place for a long walk or to let the gog out real quick. Nothing to see at the trailhead. Not really ideal for a quick stop unless you just have to pee. Bathrooms were clean. **Discover Pass Required**
