Colonial Motel - Motel in Gallup - 1007 W Coal Ave, USA

Booked the Colonial Motel based on recent reviews that it was ok. It was very inexpensive, so my expectations were low. Clean would have met expectations When checking in. I was told my room was next door at the Ranchito Motel they owned. Don't know why, but based on the Ranchito I doubt the Colonial could have been much better. Room key card didn't work so owner replaced batteries in the door and then still had to get a new card. TV remote only turned TV off and on. Housekeeper showed me how to change channels on a box on the side of the TV and that was that. Floor and most flat surfaces were dirty. Original towels were disgusting, some type of faded orange stains. I don't want to guess what that color started out as. Housekeeper must have known the condition and brought replacements without being asked. Big dogs that were kept on the property barked some during the night, but I was very tired and it didn't bother me much. I wish I had slept in my car instead of this place.

Bottom line up front: this hotel targets a consumer that is not the average population, but they do meet a need. I made an online reservation, happy to support a non-chain. The lobby was locked and I talked to them through a barred window. They let me in eventually and were nice. The room was simple, which is fine, but not very clean. I was going to buy sheets and stay the night and tough it out but I left after about 30 minutes. The deciding factor to not stay after a random person knocked on my door, was cleanliness. I did not raise my concerns to staff nor ask for a refund. The room had toilet paper and towels.

Good little motel. The guy at the front desk is very nice and helpful. He let us look at the room first. We told him the refrigerator was gone and he took the time to find us one while we went to the nearby Walmart and brought us extra towels we requested. He also ensured everything was in working order before we came back. Cost was $70 for one night, we did not make a reservation in advance. Had no noise problems from other rooms. I do have to knock off a star though because the floor was filthy. It’s a vinyl floor, no carpet, and it really needed to be swept and mopped. Everything else including the bathroom seemed clean. The room we were in had a random table under the window as if someone stands on it to look into the room. Thankfully the window does have curtains. Amenities include TV with Direct TV service and hundreds of channels to choose from, microwave, refrigerator, cups provided in the bathroom along with soup and shampoo packets, towels and wash clothes, 2 beds, a small table, and desk. Only two somewhat small pillows are provided on each queen size bed, so is you like pillows be sure to bring a few of your own. Overall it wasn’t a bad stay, and would stay again if I ever end up in the area again as it’s affordable.

Walls are thin, and there a train crossing (with horn) that runs all night which you can hear. Also, the poors were in the courtyard taking loud till after 1 am. Some stains on pillow cases and bath mat. For $45 this is a reasonable experience, just know before you go. Room itself was nice, fresh paint, kept up. Heat and AC worked great, plenty of hot water.

My family stayed here on the Ranchito Motel side. The head housekeeper Colleen was very helpful and nice. I liked that we can go to the housekeeper room if we needed anything. My family had stayed on the Colonial Motel side before and the male housekeeper was not nice and was letting street people come over too much. If you stay here I personally recommend the Ranchito Motel side.

Well, for starters, the towels were seemed like it was barely washed, there was no shower curtain, and the floor was really dirty like it wasn’t vacuumed. The bed seemed fine, though we didn’t check under the sheets. We got our money back though, nice employees, but some fishy people staying there. That’s all I have to say.

Quiet and felt safe. Too bad no phone in da room.

First of all, it's not $37. I was charged $60, to make it worse, my cell phone was stolen and the owner didn't bother to call the cops. Unsatisfied with the rooms, TV didn't work, graffiti on the inside door. Didn't stay overnight and didn't bother to get a refund. The lady that worked in the office was just rude.
