Very nice views of the smokies. Pretty steep if you have walking difficulty. I used a power wheel chair (coming down was the worst) Parking is limited but people come and go pretty quickly. Definitely worth a visit. Nice gift shop. Has access to other trails also.
The walk up to the dome is a steep paved road; they do have benches periodically for the people who need to stop and rest. It is worth the hike, you will not be disappointed! Gorgeous views! Also you can hike the Appalachian trail, look for the sign. We went early November and it was very busy, so I suggest going early for parking.
Make sure you plan ahead for this trip, it's about an hour drive on the road up to there, but with rush hour at this site it took an extra hour to wait in line for parking in the lot. If you have little ones be sure to carry them in the backpacks because the 0.5 trail you trek to it is a very steep incline and it will let you know if you're not in shape! I'd rate lower for the wait and the trek up there, but the sight seeing you get for all of that is well worth it!
Some of the best views in the smokies. Come early to watch the sunrise! Absolutely breath taking and humbling views. It is hard to find words to describe this place. The parking lot fills up very fast so plan on getting here early if you want to experience it in a quiet personal manner. The trail to clingmans dome is paved and only 1/2 mile but it does gain elevation quickly. They do provide benches to take a break on.
This was one of the best hikes on our trip. We didn't walk to Clingman's Dome first. We walked the path just before you head towards Clingman's Dome. The view on the walk is unique. Once we hit the Application trail there was a couple of places to get a view. It took about an hour to walk 1.5 miles. It is a little strainuous, but definitely worth it. I would not go to Clingman's Dome first as for the walk up the ramp is very steep.
We didn't know it was a .5 mile hike to the top..the parking lot is already at 6,311 elevation. We were achy and tired from our trip so we passed on the hike but the view from the parking lot is absolutely worth the drive. There is lots of parking but the bathrooms are something from a horror scene. Had my husband gagging 10 feet from the door. The smell is awful they are vault toilets so it is what it is...but definitely use the restroom before you get here and prepare for a hike.
I cannot say enough about the beauty of the Smokey Mountains. Do not hesitate to drive the 7 miles in to the parking area. The views are spectacular. The hike to the top of the mountain, 1/2 mile was said to be moderately challenging. My husband and I are both 72 and overweight and the 1/2 mile had 336ft elevation gain. Along the way there were plenty of benches and rocks to sit on and take a break. Many of us used them.
Great spot to watch the sunset. It was absolutely beautiful and you can either watch it set on the trail or in the parking lot! There’s also trash cans and bathrooms up at the parking lot. If it helps anyone I had about two bars of service as well witch was very helpful!
While vacationing in North Carolina, we booked a fishing trip with Fontana Guides and it was the best decision we made. Captain James made our trip unforgettable that was filled with fishing, swimming and cruising on the beautiful Fontana Lake with b
We were walking around downtown Bryson City and popped in to check out the adjoining store and were immediately greeted with the amazing smells permeating from this place. We ordered a few of their freshly prepared items and they truly hit the spot.
My husband and I have been going to the Folkestone for over 5 years. Sometimes twice a year. Scott and Toni are amazing at all that they do. They are so welcoming and you can tell they love what they do. Scottâs breakfast is delicious! The property

A beautiful picnic spot with numerous tables, clean restrooms, and ample parking. Well maintained and easily accessible. We were able to spend some amazing time there for the lunch break while we were traveling to Gatlinburg. Must be preferred rath
Delicious experience! Knowledgeable and kind staff and an excellent menu. My smokey fog was beautifully balanced and my husband's Appalachian magic was a peanut butter lovers dream. I don't have words for our bagels except that it was a spiritual exp
We had a great time here with friends. They have a great drink selection with a great atmosphere. The place is sorted divided with still having an open concept were you can enjoy, live music and dancing or you can have more of a quaint setting area
We come here every year. Our trailer is 33 feet so we park up on the hill, which is perfect. Youâre still close to the river, but have more space and the sunrise and sunset is beautiful. The campground is family owned and they are the kindest peopl
