Wonderful dinner tonight. First time coming here. Had ribeye steak. So delicious! Manhattan is very good. Will definitely return again. Our waitress was awesome!

The panoramic views of Commencement Bay from the main dining room are breathtaking, absolutely amazing. I took a few pictures and included them in this review. In addition, they have a lower level Martini lounge, The Cliff Hanger, that also gives you nice views of Commencement Bay. The Cliff Hanger also offers the exact same menu as the upstairs main restaurant along with their own bar menu with a more laid back atmosphere. think, upscale sports bar with great views. Now, the atmosphere is still the same and it brought a smile to my face like meeting an old friend after not seeing him for a long time. All the wood is still there and in fact, it's even better after their remodel. Still dark and moody with the soft sounds of Frank Sinatra playing in the background, no really, they had Frank Sinatra playing in the background. And, that was a nice new touch. Now having that out of the way, now lets talk about the food. It is a little disappointing to me to report that the food is not what I remembered. Aside from the presentation, the food was not very good starting with the service. At Sizzler that can be overlooked but not when the 8 oz steak cost $80. Now, I was informed that The Cliff House had an employee quit on the evening of our diner and therefore they were a little short staffed and because you never end a decades long relationship on a bad note after just one disagreement. I am going to be giving The Cliff House a second look in a few weeks. I'm hoping that the employee that quit that evening was the chef as that would explain the quality of food this evening. As for now, The Cliff House gets 4 stars. The Cliff House is on par with every other restaurant. The difference is they cost three times as much.

The view, the ambiance, the cleanliness, the flavor of the food, all that were absolutely fantastic! Interesting history too! It's pricey, but a great place to go on a fancy date or out for a special occasion! Only 2 small complaints: You can feel the cool breeze off the windows upstairs, those could use an upgrade. There's a lot of construction in downtown Tacoma, so make sure you leave with ample travel time because the hostess punished us for being 10 minutes late by making us wait an extra 10 minutes after arriving, even though our table was ready, and I called ahead to let them know we'd be a little late. Still would highly recommend! The lobster fettuccine was delicious!

What an absolutely stunning view for dinner tonight! It was date night for the wife and I. We had never been here before. We were there before 5 pm, so we were told we had to sit downstairs. We ordered the scallops for our appetizer. I then ordered the Wagyu burger, and my wife ordered the blackened chicken with risotto. We both had ginger beers with lime with our dinners. Lastly, for dessert, I had the cannoli's, and my wife had flourless chocolate cake. My burger was tasty. I enjoyed it very much. My wife said her blackened chicken risotto wasn't that good, nothing to write home about. Service was adequate. Will we be back? Yes. But only for happy hour prices, though. Our bill for date night was $131.81 before our $30 dollar tip. Was it worth that much money? In my opinion, no. We did enjoy ourselves, I just feel it was a bit steep in price.

Oh my God. We drove 2 hours to have dinner. My 1st time eating here was 50 years ago on my 16th Birthday. I have taken my wife here a few times, and food was good. However since it is hard to find a good place anymore. We decided to go one last time. If I can deter someone from getting sick I hope this will help. $212.00. Was the damage. It was the worst meal ever. My rib eye Steak $54.00 was tough and no flavor. I HAVE BOUGHT and cooked steak from safeway that was better. They do not offer fresh bread before dinner. We had to ask after we got our food. $7.00. stale I had oysters shooters bad choice. Then we had mussels not good. My wife had a pasta dish with white sauce lobster and shrimp. Was better than my steak. Not much. I don't know why we had desert but it wasn't any better. Old and dry. This place needs to close up. I had to stop by S11 to get something to take the taste of the cake out of my mouth. I left a tip to cover the taxes. But that way to much. Is not the waitress fault. FOOD SUCKS NOW. Don't go. Uou can get a better meal at jack in the box.

Great views. Yes, the food is spendy, but you only get upset when it's a bad meal. Friendly, attentive service. We will be back

So, this was a very disappointing trip back down to my old neighborhood. I've been dining at The Cliff House for over a two decades until I moved from the 253 area to the 425 area. I have always had a very nostalgic soft spot for The Cliff House restaurant because it always reminded me of the old East Coast Cigar Smoking Lounges or a vintage Old Country style study. It's full of dark woods and a dark moody atmosphere. Just what I would want in my own home if I had a couple of mil to spend on a single room in my house. Also, the panoramic views of Commencement Bay from the main dining room are breathtaking, absolutely amazing. I took a few pictures and included them in this review. Now having that out of the way, now lets talk about the food. It is a little disappointing to me to report that the food is not what I remembered. Aside from the presentation, the food was not very good starting with the service. So my drink order was wrong, my half pound wagyu burger that was supposed to be medium was well done and my wife's medium well steak was also well done. At Sizzler that can be overlooked but not when the 8 oz steak cost $80. Now, I was informed that The Cliff House had an employee quit on the evening of our diner and therefore they were a little short staffed and because you never end a decades long relationship on a bad note after just one disagreement. I've been a loyal customer since the 1980s. Best water view, top shelf food and service. The hostess last visit decided to allow some snob people ahead of us with no apology from either the hostess or the snobs (they acted like they owned the place, cut in front of us and another group). I would rate them 5 stars but for that experience. I don't drink but I do know they make a great Long Island Ice Tea. The bar is terraced and has a better view than the dining room.
