Positive: the customer service was AMAZING. Upon check-in the innkeeper spent about 30 minutes with me going over the layout of the town, locations of places I wanted to visit and suggestions for other places to go/restaurants to try. Negative: Not a thing. It was exactly what I had imagined - rustic, charming, quiet and with a fireplace in my room Negative: ""

Unexpected trip from Plymouth, found out on arrival that it was the Xmas tree lighting so decided we wanted to stay over for the night so we booked day of. Otillia greeted us when we were still in our car, showed us where to park. We checked in with her and she took our breakfast order that you need to schedule the night before. She showed us the room which was fantastic! Separated bedroom with bathroom, and a separate living space with oven, microwave, table and comfy couch. We had a very comfortable stay and will be sure to call Otillia again! Btw, she’s super friendly and funny. Don’t be surprised if she jokes with you about a shared bathroom!

Beware of the upsell and the rooms. The room descriptions are not clear. Booked a standard room but was told I would be assigned to a room on 3rd floor (problematic given my disability). Owner/manager said he had another room on the ground floor but it was "one of the best" and the "largest" so he pushed me to upgrade at an additional fee. This was a same day thing so it was doubtful he would have rented any of the seemingly many available rooms. Upgraded room was tiny and outdated. Not sure if it was anything different than the original room which I never saw. At least if I had stuck with the standard room I wouldn't have had high expectations. Not all rooms have fireplaces (including the hyped up room) or tubs. Breakfast is fine. The staff tries their hardest. This is not a luxurious or charming experience though. Specifically, it is missing the charm of small innkeepers making breakfasts themselves and it is missing the quality of a larger inn.

The location is perfect. Rick is an outstanding host. If you are someone that wants everything to be modern, then this is not the place for you. It is a quaint Inn with all the quirks that an old building has. Our room had a fireplace which was so nice to sit by on the rainy day during our stay. The room was clean, the staff was attentive, the breakfast was good. It is a great place to stay for a little getaway.

We just returned from 2 night stay at the Clarkeston. This was the second time we've stayed at this charming inn. The location is ideal for exploring Newport. Our room was spacious with a king-sized bed, an updated bathroom with 2 sinks, and wonderful air conditioner which was a godsend on a very warm weekend! Our host, Rick, and the rest of the staff, could not have been more welcoming or helpful. They went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. ||We're already looking forward to a third stay at the Clarkeston Inn next summer!

The hotel is shabby and worn down and the owner was deceitful with us. We had booked a reservation at the Melville House, part of the same Inns of Newport, in a suite with two rooms for us and our child. The morning we were supposed to arrive, the owner kindly called to confirm everything and said we had a suite lined up with two rooms and that we would be “pleasantly surprised” with the room. We were anything but. We were instead put in the dingy “family suite” in the Clarkeston across the street. It had stained carpets, an ugly kitchen with a refrigerator that ran constantly and absolutely no charm. On top of that, the second room with a pull out couch was made up but with no pillows for sleeping. There were no extra pillows, just the two on our bed, so our child ended up sleeping with us and defeated the purpose of two rooms with two beds. I called that night when I realized to complain and I was told to speak to the owner the next day. I did and all he said was that was not acceptable and we could move to a two-room suite in Melville House — which is what we booked originally! It all felt slick and rehearsed, and total disregard for sticking us in an inferior room and trying to make it sound like he put us in a nicer room in Clarkeston. The room in Melville House was nicer but still run down, especially for the nearly $400 (before tax) that we paid.

My friends and I just returned from our stay at the Clarkeston. I have to say the location is wonderful. The theater is around the corner. Shops, restaurants, and charming parks just a street over. We had a lovely breakfast everyday. It was quaint, charming, and absolutely New England to us Georgia girls. Rick was a amazing host. He made sure we were happy with our stay. He gave us direction on where to to go and what to see ( as well as the locals that we asked at the pubs). Otillia was an amazing hostess and I don’t think she ever went home. We love to play cards late at night and she just asked us to turn the light off in the lower Parler. She was always gracious and helpful to us. We have returned safely to Georgia humidity and can’t wait to return!

We stayed for an overnight at this lovely Inn in Newport, Rhode Island. It is in a gorgeous, historic neighborhood only steps from the docks and main thoroughfare in Newport. The man in the front desk could not have been more welcoming. Alex, an employee there, was very sweet and showed us to our room and where to park. The room itself was lovely and clean. It was very quiet too. Breakfast (included) was wonderful and our waitress was a doll. Newport is such a wonderful place and this and could not be better situated. And they have parking! I would highly recommend it.
