I have been a FileMaker user for over 17 years - it is an immensely useful platform. Modern FileMaker is a great way to build custom database apps for SMEs on the desktop (Mac/Win), Mobile (iOS) and Web.
There is an intuitive graphical layout toolkit, built-in database engine and a simple scripting engine so that you can get going with a solution quickly. Large corporations can still find it a great rapid application development and prototyping tool as you can also use it as a front end for SQL database systems (i.e. MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle or PostgreSQL).
I have been using and developing FileMaker custom apps for more than 10 years, and must say FileMaker is an incredible platform. You can easily connect to it on desktop, mobile and web without having to maintain different code bases. Awesome!
FileMaker is an excellent database program for businesses large and small.
I've using FileMaker for over 25 years, FileMaker is constantly improving their program as technology changes.
Easy set up with excellent "starter" solutions that can be customized by users beginner to advanced.
As a FileMaker Developer I've also had the opportunity to work with financial and educational institutions and government departments as well as small businesses and non-profit organizations. Why do they select FileMaker from all the choices available? There are two primary reasons: 1. They can develop their business application to meet their specific needs far more quickly than most other development environments and 2. They can develop their apps far less expensively than other environments.
I've been working with FileMaker since 1992 and it keeps evolving to work with all modern technologies. Write once and deploy on web, iPad, iPhone, Mac and Windows. How cool is that!
I've also had the pleasure to work with many IT departments. The FileMaker Platform meets the stringent requirements of IT for security, robustness, and reliability. And requires minimum maintenance!
Definitely a platform to be investigated.

FileMaker is awesome!
I have been using FileMaker for many years now, and it is by far the easiest to use, the most flexible, and the visually most pleasing of all the various database options out there.
Anyone can pick it up and start using it.
No computer science degree needed.
Of all the companies and their software I deal with Filemaker is the only one I've grown to love. I started using Filemaker Pro in 1996 basically out of necessity because it was the only database I could get to work in our environment. It saved a 24 location install. Since then I've solved so many problems using their software and when necessary getting help from their internal resources and later the Filemaker Community. I seldom update my other software because they really don't add any new useful features. But Filemaker has always added new features that the Filemaker Community requests. Now that I do most of why work in Filemaker I consider the software and the company to be my unseen partners.
I have been a FileMaker developer since 1986, and highly recommend FileMaker for database development. I tend to think of FileMaker as much more than a database development tool, in fact more like a Workflow Automation tool. There are frequently times when I am able to take an 8 hour manual process and turn it into a simple 2 minute "Click a button" type of process for a customer.
I have also found it advantageous to use FmPro Migrator Platinum Edition to convert old Microsoft Access solutions into FileMaker to improve reliability, scalability and ease of use for customers.
Our company discovered FileMaker a few years ago as a way to augment our legacy system with mobile capability for our sales department. As we build more apps and increase complexity, FileMaker continues to prove a very worthy platform to grow with. FileMaker is robust enough to accomplish just about anything we can think of without requiring a large number of developers.
