City Grille - American restaurant in Elizabeth City - 691 S Hughes Blvd, USA

Ordered two piece dark chicken with rice and french fries. Despite me saying no gravy, the chef put gravy on my first rice, and when I got a new set of rice there was SWEET POTATOES in it. I only ate the chicken, felt disgusted at cross contaminated serving utensils. Tried a single fry, not at all seasoned, no salt, nothing. The waitress being polite was the only saving grace of the meal

Caesar salad with grilled chicken was fantastic. Bathrooms smelled very clean. Waitress was very nice and attentive.

Overall, a solid 4. I've ate here before but really wanted something different today and just home style. The atmosphere is that of a country restaurant and that was good. Tables were clean and the restaurant was clean. The service was par but it seemed like they were short staffed. Can't really fault the restaurant however because of the current state of the country. Once we ordered, the food arrived quickly. Surprised a little because the menu is large. There is a Greek flair and that is nice. Food came out hot and overall was good. Some improvements could be made but I will go back. Fried squash were absolutely delicious.

I just had the WORST experience at The City Grille! I took my kids there for lunch, we ordered a soda and two hot chocolates. The ice had slime on the surface of my drink (like the dirty soda machine slime) and my kids “hot chocolate” was warm chocolate milk. At this point I asked our waitress to cancel our food order we need to pay for our drinks and leave. She then gave me an attitude saying she would have to pay for the order if I don’t. Obviously I didn’t want that, so I asked for a manager/owner. The owner(?) came out angry and said why don’t I want my food, I said we want to pay for our drinks but we won’t be eating their food, I’m sorry but we need to go. He then started YELLING at me in front of my kids! I said I’m not going to stand here and be yelled at and left. This man CHASED me and my kids out to the parking lot yelling! I called my husband on the phone because this is scary at this point! We left and the cops ended up calling us (laughing at how ridiculous this owner is) and asked us to pay the $3.17 for our drinks like I tried to before we’re chased out!

Called, placed our order, arrived to pickup, there was a pickup lane, saw 2 cars parked in that lane, we parked in front of the restaurant in a parking spot, called, they said our food will be ready in 5 minutes, we went inside to pickup our food and did not have to wait when we went inside to pickup our food. We saw someone else outside waiting for us which was also parked in the pickup lane or line. Food was good.

Food was good! Service was great. Waitress was attentive.

Food was hot and good for the most part. The waitress was on point.

We have eaten there twice this week during our visit to Elizabeth City. The food is plentiful, taste great and served hot! Service is great and prices very reasonable. Today, Nicole was very attentive. Definitely a go-to place to eat when hungry. On the way out, the cheesecake looked too good to pass up, so we got two to go. Delicious!
