If you're looking for something fancy you might as well look elsewhere. Asked an Uber driver where the locals eat and he suggested this place. Divey type of place and we loved it. Food is in fact awesome and you wouldn't even think that it would be. Yes, it is inside a Bowling alley but do not let that throw you off either. Finally, found a decent spot to eat. This is what every Foody would want on their list.

I asked the bellhop staff at my hotel for the least tourist, diviest place i could get dinner within walking distance and they all said to go to Chubby's. I did not realize it was inside a bowling alley (and to get there you need to enter the parking lot of the Sack n Save and go around the back). However the food did not disappoint. Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed Chubby's Saimin. For $16 it is a huge portion. The staff are very friendly; you order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. I am so happy that I went here for dinner.

The food here is really good! You don't need to play at the arcade or bowling alley to eat here. You can order online or via phone,. although you have to pre-pay phone orders over $50. Food is hot and packaged really well for to-go orders. Kalua pork was really good.

My wife and I arrived in Kona and after getting a rental car, it was already past 8pm. I had done my research previously, and I decided to order to-go here because of its rating and menu choices. I didn’t realize this place was at a bowling place and that it wasn’t very easy to find. Although a Thursday night, it was quite busy. There were fewer than 10 tables and they were all taken. Only one waitress/cashier was working so I felt bad for her. I had to take the food to go and couldn’t consume it until half an hour later, but the oxtail soup was still warm. The server Shanon even wrapped the oxtail soup in plastic wrap so that it would not spill. Very thoughtful of her. There were many oxtail pieces in the soup so even at $28, this was a good deal. The soup flavor was not salty but just right. With veggies inside the soup, the was very comforting. I chose fries and macaroni salad for the kalbi plate. The kalbi was spot on. Even when it was luke warm, it was delicious. It would have been amazing if I had eaten it immediately. There was enough food for the 2 of us… for almost 2 meals. 4.5 stars for the place, but rounded up to 5 from their thoughtfulness and yummy taste even when consumed 30 minutes later. Too bad they were out of banana cheesecake lumpia. Guess I’ll have to wait until next time. =)

So happy I looked for a place the locals go to eat. Chubby's Dinner is located in a very alive bowling alley. The atmosphere is fun and the food was excellent. I tried both the Fish and Chips as well as the Kahlua Pork and Cabbage with rice and house Mac. The Fish was undoubtedly the best I've had. It was tempura batter. The fish melted in my mouth. Truly, it was incredible. The fries definitely held their own in the fries category. The plate is huge, the fries were plentiful but again, the fish is the show! 4 huge pieces of Tempura fish. The second plate was just as good. The Kahlua Pork was outstanding! The flavor was nicely balanced between pork and hints of smoke. They gave me a large portion with shredded, chopped and large chucked pieces. The cabbage was cooked perfectly and was a perfect amount with the pork. The rice was okay and I did eat some of it. The House Mac was good but probably not the best I've ever had. This is a place worth going to when in Kona. I will be eating here again on this trip. I will be having the fish and chips again!

6/19/2023 Chubby's Diner 75-5591 Palani Rd KBXtreme Kailua-Kona, HI 96740 It's in the bowling alley at the back of the shopping center. Don't remember how I heard about the fried saimin but that is what I ordered at the counter and was given a number stand and found a seat. My food was brought to me shortly. In addition to the char siu pork and kamaboko there were nicely crunchy celery, onion, carrot and bok choy slices. The noodles were stir fried in a mildly garlic teriyaki style sauce, not salty at all. The dish was on the greasy side, like it's supposed to be. It was a lot of food for one person. This is definitely a locals place and all the plates had mass quantities. Definitely worth repeating.

As a tourist, I have no idea why I end up eating Burch here. Probably I was looking for all-day breakfast at very late morning. But surprisingly, their food is good. It is located within the bowling alley and arcade area. For local families, I am sure they can spend a whole day inside without getting bored and hungry. The restaurant has a daily menu for fish. That day, I had Ono fish, which was ok. The fire rice I had was very good. The main point is that they are not going to break your bank while you are traveling. Overall, 4-4.5 stars.
