Chicken Box Cafe - Soul food restaurant in Charlotte - 1331 W Sugar Creek Rd, USA

I had the opportunity to visit here recently and wanted to bring back the taste of NC fry chicken to NYC for my husband to try as thus place was right outside my hotel I decided to get an 8 piece fry chicken, the Mix gizzard and liver, 2 smothered pork chops and 2 fried pork chops now me being from Trinidad 🇹🇹 and my husband with his SC roots was very excited and what we expected. He said he really loved the smothered pork chops, the gizzard, and fry pork chops he loved the texture, taste, and flavor. I never had smothered pork, so I like it, not love it. The fried pork chop I loved and enjoyed the fry liver, which my Mom cooked, never fried, so this was my first time. However, we both agreed that we were not very impressed with the fry chicken and felt it needed more seasoning and would be good with a spicy kick to it. If I am in the area again, i am ever in the area. I would definitely go there again to try some of their MANY many dishes. The workers are very friendly and helpful with suggestions the place is very clean with chairs you can sit on while waiting for your cooked to order meal ( I love that the food is not sitting in trays for hours but cooked as you order which means your food is cooked fresh so PLEASE have patients and wait or order and go ahead and run your errands.) There are also a few tables you can sit and eat if you don't want to take it home and share. I would recommend this place to everyone. And see you all next year after winter, God willing.

Great experience! We stopped at the Chicken Box before leaving to head back to Virginia. Friendly, personable staff along with excellent, well seasoned food…perfect combination. Highly recommend and we’ll return!

I was in the area and decided to try this place out off the strength of the reviews. I got the 4 wing dinner with mac and cheese , collard greens and a cornbread muffin. The first thing that caught me off guard was the color of the chicken. It was so pale and obviously not freshly cooked. The chicken had no flavor and was dry, but thankfully there were several packs of hotsauce in the bag so I suffered through it. Then, I peeled back the paper to check out the mac and cheese....the bright orange-yellow color of the noodles was disturbing. It looked like kraft mac and cheese. I tried one noodle and it was so overcooked and unappetizing that I couldn't stomach eating anymore. The greens were oddly sweet so I didn't eat those either. Overall I was super dissapointed and will not be back or recommend.

Food was piping hot! Very delicious! No dine in at the moment was a bummer at the moment. It's good enough to eat before you pull off. I had the meal deal. 1 chicken breast and a side (mac and cheese❤👍🏾) with a roll, my friend got thr livers with cabbage, and mac and cheese. Your going to get your money's worth if you get the livers. I watched my friend eat and eat and it seemed as if it wasn't making a dent lol. Very very very tasty! They have a beer number if options including fish and chitterlings. Reasonable prices as well

Wow, so friendly and what great food. This is a take business they do have on table but the business is takeout. We had someone recommend it and yes this is the best kept secret in Charlotte well not really a secret because they were busy. If you want some dynamite cooking then order here. The people here are super friendly and accommodating if I lived there I would be sure to visit often.

Everything was amazing. New favorite soul food spot. Ordered 6pc Wing dinner w/ Mac & Cheese, greens, potato salad, & yams. Greens were 🔥. Chicken seasoned well 👌🏽. Points for the sweet cornbread too 😮‍💨

I didn't like how I placed my order online, arrived on time, and my food wasn't ready. When it was ready it sat on the counter for 20 minutes until I asked if that was my order. It was. The Mac and cheese and the yams taste like it came from a box. The sweet potato pie was too fluffy. The banana pudding taste like it was made from instant pudding. The stuffing and turkey wings were delicious. A little more gravy for all of that rice on the side would have been nice. I love the ambiance when you walk in. Nobody was rude or nasty, but they weren't attentive either. I will try again, but dine in for the experience.

I got the pig feet meal with Yams and broccoli casserole, with the snack baked chicken. I got there 30 minutes before close. So they were out of yams and dark meat. They give me white meal (loved the wings 😋). They give my a slice of sweet potato pie in place of yams. The food was piping hot including the slice of pie. Huge portions, affordable and great customer service. Will be back, Update: the Crocker sandwich is delicious the house make tartar sauce is really good better than red lobster
