The train station exudes a mix of warmth and coolness as travelers bustle about, their breath visible in the crisp air. The temperature inside the station is regulated, providing a comfortable respite from the external elements, ensuring a welcoming environment for passengers awaiting their journeys. The hum of conversations mingles with the subtle hum of climate control systems, maintaining a steady temperature within the station's confines. As commuters pass through, they shed the chill of the outdoors, finding solace in the station's ambient warmth. The occasional draft from departing trains adds a fleeting breeze, reminding everyone of the dynamic atmosphere of transit. Beneath the overarching roof of the station, the temperature remains consistent, shielding passengers from the whims of weather outside. Sunlight filters through large windows, casting a gentle warmth on those seated along the platforms. The interplay of indoor and outdoor temperatures creates a unique microcosm where the journey begins amidst the nuanced climate of anticipation and departure. Within the station, the temperature dances with the rhythms of arrivals and departures. The click-clack of footsteps on tiled floors accompanies a subtle shift in the air as doors open and close. Commuters, wrapped in layers or carrying their jackets, navigate the climate-controlled space, creating a transient balance between the outdoor chill and indoor comfort. It's a symphony of temperatures, echoing the transient nature of travel itself. As trains pull into the station, a temporary surge of warmth heralds their arrival. Passengers step aboard, momentarily escaping the ambient temperature of the platform. The metallic tang of the train cars intermingles with the subtle warmth, creating a sensory collage that defines the station's atmospheric character. In these moments, the temperature becomes a silent narrator, weaving tales of departures and reunions within the transient confines of the bustling hub.

This place is insane. I found O'Hara easier to navigate the first time I was there than twice here within 2 days. It's an underground city and serves 2 different rail systems. Amtrak and Metra. Stores, corridors, escalators, elevators, elevated walkways, etc... if you don't like to ask for directions, expect to be lost and upset a great deal. Front the Great Hall, head towards the trains, make 4 lefts, go up the escalator, then make 2 rights to be in the food court. **That is actual directions.**

It’s such a cool experience to travel by train into Union Station especially around Christmas holidays. The train station is jampacked with all the people looking to travel via train. This is one of the better stations. I don’t know about parking, but as I’ve come to Chicago over the years I’ve always gone through Union Station. Bring masks, hand sanitizer and just recognize that is a massive public transport.

Convenient location nearby the tourist area. Can walk around the river or go to the Willis Tower if one has extra time to burn. Lots of nice restaurants and cafes by the river. Inside the station, there are multiple lounges and great hall to wait for the train. There are a number of fast food services in the food court too.

Union Station Chicago has beautiful architecture. We had a six hour layover here between Amtrak trains. We had access to the Metropolitan Lounge. They provided free soft drinks and numerous snacks. A very neat and clean place away from the noise and station crowds. If you get the opportunity and have excess amount of time, there is no better place to wait. The attendant at the front entrance was exceptionally informative and pleasant.

Union Station is such a cool building. The old architecture is lovely and timeless. It's especially pretty around the holidays. It's easy to navigate as well, and right in the middle of downtown Chicago. I always enjoy taking the train here.

Union Station is a very cool historic place. Scenes from the Kevin Costner & Sean Connery gangster movie "The Untouchables" were filmed on the stairs in the grand hall (you know, the one with the baby carriage). Lots of outbound Amtrak & Metra commuter trains with decent restaurants on the mezzanine level. The Grand Hall is magnificent, the architecture well-preserved and during the holiday season it's very festive. I'd much rather come through Union Station than Ogilvie!

Absolutely beautiful architectural, historical place. Parking was horrible to find any, we went in this pass December to take family pictures after my husband and I got married, the inside is breath taking. We were able to take many beautiful pictures and showed my father and brother who came from New York a little bit of downtown Chicago.
