Nice campground but the signs of previous damage are visible. Ranger said there was lots of wind storms and bad prior management and thus the outhouses are both out of order and temporary stalls have been placed. No showers because of this as of time of post but should be back sometime. Aside from that the area is beautiful and lots of fallen wood for fires, white sand beach and bottomed lake that you can swim in. Something like a 6000 acre lake. Lots of fish and fishing activities.

Great campsite! Cheap primitive sites at $7 / night and really friendly and well intentioned camp host Chuck. You can tell there’s a lot of care for the land and continuous work improving storm damage. Definitely recommend staying!

Right off interstate 22 in Mississippi is Chewalla Lake campground which to my liking is 100% deserted. Approaching Labor Day weekend, Chuck, the head campground wrangler doesn't expect much more than a handful of occupants over the aforementioned holiday. Why you might ask would a beautiful USFS tree lined large lake in a quiet setting be so unceremoniously ignored by the adjacent traveling public? Part of the mystery is revealed when viewing the pine tree tomahawked bathrooms rendering showers and poopers inoperable to be replaced by lowly port a potties. In my world this is a feature not a bug if quiet enjoyment in a beautiful setting is preferred. Five stars.

This was a very nice little spot to stop and take a break on our way traveling through. It had a boat ramp, fishing dock, and lots of nice camping spots. As well as regular bathrooms and a swimming spot. Was a very beautiful and serene spot. I imagine it is very underrated in the area. We definitely plan on coming back, but camping next time instead of just passing through.

Little piece of heaven, only thing i didn't like about it was not enough time to fully enjoy the beauty of God's creation and relax by the water side. This is a pinned spot on my map. I recommend take a detour to see this hidden jewel.

After years of being closed it’s finally open again. The camp Host is doing a lot of work to revitalize the camp ground. Bathrooms were closed due to a major storm damaging everything but it looks like they are almost complete. It was very quiet and pretty close to Memphis to see the things I wanted to see.

Wonderful park. The campground host, Chuck was great. He came over to our site when we arrived to introduce himself. He helped us out when the lift cable broke on our popup camper. And again later when we had an issue with our hitch. We were only there 1 night, but nice quiet place and there is a beautiful lake. No alligators either! I live in gator country.

Such a peaceful camping experience! Great for kids. The lake is serene and peaceful, and although it was chilly, the morning was beautiful. Make sure to bring cash - singles and 5's - because there is not an attendant at the entry to make change. Even if just visiting for the day (see pics for rates). Be prepared with a pen or pencil to fill out an envelope to pay for your site and a placard to hang in your window. Bring firewood and or charcoal- lots of sites have fire pits and they all have a bbq. There are 2 playgrounds, a basketball court, a swim beach, and a little island with picnic tables and another bbq grill. Sunrise is magnificent. Pets are welcome, on leashes. Bathrooms are tidy, and although showers are advertised we didn't stay long enough to locate them. Enjoy and happy camping!

Beautiful and peaceful state park with a 1.75 mile trail around the lake. The state park is 30 minutes from Oxford. The trail is easy and well maintained. The entrance fee is 4 dollar, cash only.
