Chester County History Center - Featured Reviews (106)
The Chester County History Center is one of the most incredible Historical Museums and research centers I've ever been to. The scholars and exhibits featured here explore all aspects of American History. The staff is exceptional knowledgable, friendly and invite you into the history. The stunning Museum features installations which capture the imagination and rooted in deep scholarship. Pennsylvania indeed is the Keystone State and the History reflected here is powerfully told here. Specifically Southeastern Pennsylvania holds a unique footprint in the development of our Country: Women's Leadership, the UGRR, Revolutionary War History, Agricultural History, Government, Civil Rights, Religious Freedom. It is a hidden gem.
The Chester County History Center is much more than a local history museum. It is a respected and integral part of the greater south-east Pennsylvania community, from sponsoring the regional History Day competition to partnering with Netflix to premiere the powerful film on West Chester-born Bayard Rustin. Their Zoom presentations and lectures during the Covid lockdown were lifesavers. Thankfully the tradition has continued.
An all around great institution.
Time spent well!! 80mins
UNDERGROUND RAILROAD WALKING TOUR
The Underground Railroad was a network of people, black as well as white, offering shelter and aid to enslaved people escaping from the South. This family-friendly walking tour will visit eight locations around downtown West Chester that played a part in these struggles toward freedom and equality.
Tour covers approximately 1.25 miles and lasts 75 minutes. Tour is entirely outdoors; sidewalks and terrain may be uneven.
I had an amazing time at the Chilling West Chester Walking Tour. It was a great way to learn about the history of the area and to hear some spooky tales. I wanted to do something different this Halloween and they did not let me down!
We did the holiday walking tour and it was wonderful. Thr guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive. I learned so much about West Chester's history.
My boyfriend and I went to the West Chester Historic Society The Chilling West Chester 2: A Dark History Walking Tour! It was awesome! They were dress in gowns from the era and told real historic stories of buildings and things that happened there! They did a great job! I’m definitely going again but to the Underground Railroad tour! I’m really looking forward to it!
Please make sure you use their tour that the money goes to the historic society! I hear there is someone else that took their stories and is running their own tours! Please make sure you use the HISTORIC SOCIETY tours! Your money helps the society and it’s a great walk of West Chester with really interesting stories! Highly recommend!!!! 👻
Wonderful little gem to learn more about our local history. From the outside, you'll underestimate what your experience will be inside. Stop in and view our past. You'll enjoy yourself and you might be amazed at what you learn.
We're really glad we became members. CCHC has developed a really nice program for kids and family. Jenn and Anne are the best and always remember us. They have gone above and beyond to great experiences for my kids. We really appreciated how they give materials for my 8-year-old before a tour to maximize her experience. She says it one of her favorite places to visit.
