After recently moving upstate from NYC, the biggest thing I miss is the food! After several months of going to restaurants upstate, I am pleased to say that Charlton Tavern is at the very top of my list! The food was delicious, the decor inside was so charming and cozy around Christmas, and the staff was super friendly! A great place to go with a group. Tip: request to sit near the fireplace for the best seat in the house. Highly recommend!

Super cute place in a great small town. It is a very homey and cozy atmosphere. The people here are lovely. The food is great but the menu is not that big. Especially for dinner they really only have a big selection of sandwiches. They are a little pricey too. Service is great and food comes out fast. Also tends to lean more of an older of age crowd that comes here. Overall very nice place and good food!

Had been years since I've been here. What a cozy atmosphere! Beautiful inside especially around the Holidays. The staff was so friendly and the food was really good! Will definitely be back!

Order over the phone as the online service was down for the Holiday weekend, and also found out that because the Dinner services do not start until 5:00PM I was unable to pick an Entree I sought, but that's ok, that's what backup picks are for. Went with the Stuffed Mushrooms, Grilled Vegetable Salad, and the Southwest Chicken Sandwich with Onion Rings. Finding my way there was a little bit of a struggle, just because the turn in for the restaurant is nestled in-between two houses so making the wrong turn either early or late has you pulling into a strangers driveway. But once I was inside the atmosphere was great, the calm before the dinner storm rush as I would put it. The servers were nice and I had my pickup in no time. Once home I opened everything up to find it all looks great and smelled amazing. Starting with the Mushrooms, well, they were gone before I even sat down to really dig into everything. They were so good! Perfectly bite sized, with stuffing that I couldn't put my finger on what it was but all I knew was it tasted delicious. Wished I had bought more. The salad was next, and it wasn't quite what I was expecting. The grilled vegetables only served as a topping for the main salad which was pickled spinach, not normally my choice for greens but somehow either the marinade or the pickling made them the best part. Sadly the grilled vegetables could have used some more char to them, and due to their size, I had a tough time working on them as the skins on everything but the roasted red peppers were soft. Finally, the chicken sandwich. Pretty alright, but the shredded or diced chicken they used resulted in a far messier experience as it kept falling out. The flavor was good too, though the lettuce layer could have been a bit fresher. The onions rings were kind of disappointing though, they failed to separate them prior to battering and frying, so I ended up with rings that were 80% onion and 20% fried. I prefer my onions rings to have a nice crisp crunch to their coating, and these were soft and sometime soggy. A true shame. All that said, for what I got, it was still a great Friday dinner.

First time visitor today. I had the New England clam chowder and fish and chips. Both were ok, but not great. The service was great and so was the atmosphere. Certainly worth a return visit.

Our party of 14 walked in, at 2pm on a Sunday, without notice. To our delight the staff was able to accommodate us. We sat in the large front/main dining room. The atmosphere was a lovely and comfortable rustic with a small bar tucked in one corner. I didn't get a close look at the bar, I did notice the only a few TVs only in that area, which I appreciated. It was covered floor to ceiling with wood, exposed beams on the ceiling, tavern decor with an Irish vibe adorned the walls and ceiling. The dining room was warmly lit with votive candles on the tables, I'd put volume at a pleasant "conversation level". I enjoyed a draft Octoberfest brew and a excellent Ruben sandwich with onion rings. Our waitress was attentive, the food came out hot and in proper order, drink refills, promptly offered. The check had 20% gratuity added, which we were fine with, considering the the size of our party and the service we received. Overall we had a very enjoyable experience, I would recommend. On the way home my wife suggested it'd be nice to visit during a snowfall.

This is one of our favorite places to dine. The atmosphere is a wonderful rustic pub feel with rafters, fire place, etc. The seasonal decorations for every holiday are amazing! My husband often orders a beef dish and is always happy. He especially loves the rib eye. He's also always enjoys an Old Fashion from the bar. They don't make it too sweet. I've ordered many different entrees, usually one of the daily specials and have always been pleased. The house warm bacon dressing for the salad is always our choice. We often get our desserts to go to enjoy at home and we've loved the various cheesecakes.

Was so excited to dine here but terribly disappointed in the seafood we ordered. The calamari appetizer was average although tolerable. The special was baked sole with crab meat which was well over cooked and although looked tasty quickly turned into a pile of mush. To overcook a delicate whitefish to the point of emulsion is a shame. See pics. Stick with the fries and bar food. Neighbor diners plates with fries and burgers/sandwiches looked much more appetizing.
