Charlie O's - Featured Reviews (197)
To refer to Charlie O's as a seedy, crummy 'dive bar' is an understatement and an insult to dive bars. Don't take my word for it. Read the (many) negative reviews. Mine is yet another one. For about six months, I'd been going Tuesday nights for the karaoke. The surly bartender, Brandi, short-changed me three times, which I diplomatically ignored. Then, one Tuesday night, as I was politely and quietly asking a very rude, very obviously intoxicated woman who had taken my clearly-marked seat at the crowded bar to please give me my seat back (I'm 68), Brandi almost instantly had me thrown out, with no explanation whatsoever, other than something like, 'too bad, you lost your seat'. At least six times previously, other regulars had taken my clearly-marked seat, or otherwise made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome; I felt hurt but said nothing. Finally, I chose to speak up. Read the one-star reviews (click on 'lowest'); other newer, non-regulars have also been thrown out for no good reason. That's illegal. I'm seriously considering suing. The arrogant owner seems to take delight in blaming their patrons for the disgusting, repulsive, prejudicial, and illegal behavior of their own rude, arrogant 'help'. Apparently, the arrogant owner wants the profit, but without any responsibility to conduct his business in a civil, non-prejudicial, legal way.
Like many posts here, this bar is not welcoming to non-locals. Response posts to negative reviews from the business typically blame the patrons as having too much to drink. I’m sure this happens, but the simple truth is this is a deflection tactic where Charlie O’s only places blame on patrons rather than taking any accountability of their own. I’ve been to Charlie O’s many times and it’s obvious their service is sub-par to say the least. It’s unfortunate this is only one of two late night options in Montpelier. My hope is that the business improves its service to all, not just the regulars who dominate the bar and the pool table.
A very fun local dive bar! The bartender was awesome. The pool table + fun hangs with friends can't be beat! Can't wait to go back.
Not to be deterred by electrical, floor, and other interior post-flood renovations, The Veranda is up and running at Charlie Os. Sign states "takeout food welcome" so I brought my styro-packed snack in from up the street and had outdoor food and beer in the midst of an otherwise downtown recovery zone.
It's a great bar. Pool tables, drinks, strong coffee in a beer mug, live music, friendly bartenders. Just great.
Overall, bartender is incredibly rude if you aren't part of the Montpelier sub-culture clique. Out-of-towners beware... so if you can get past that, the place is OK, prices are decent, easy access as well.
This pub is really cool. Very diverse crowd. Cash only. Live music, punk rock bands.
Nice place two pool table and it does offer outside seating. On this visit the was a live band, may not have been something I would normally listen to but we should all support local entertainment and entertainers. I am still trying to get accustomed to cash only. I hate touching paper money.
I went here to see a dramatic reading of A Christmas Carol A ghost Story preformed by Wilem Lange. It was very good. The theater is cozy and the people are very nice. Small town theaters are my favorite I always feel like Iâm home no matter where i

Upstairs salsa spot brings so much. I heard many people express how special it felt to witness the salsa scene bringing life and intricacy to Montpelier. Many people traveling miles to come here for the salsa event felt unbelievably special. Up-Up
