Charlestown Breachway - Campground in Charlestown - 812-774 Charlestown Beach Rd, USA

Beautiful beach, lots of fishing spots, not to crowded this time of year. However the parking lot is small and fills up fast. Views of Block island from the shore. Waves but nothing crazy. Definitely worth going if you get the chance.

We attempted to walk from East Beach in Charlestown Rhode Island to the Charlestown Breachway. Because of the impending storm we turned back after we walked a couple miles of the 3-mile Walk. We made it a point to drive to the Charleston Breachway and were surprised at the amount of time it took. It was a thrilling experience because of the impending summer storm. We saw where a recent storm caused erosion to the beach and destroyed part of the jetty. The jetty will need to be rebuilt as it serves to funnel water from the Atlantic Ocean into the Ninigret Salt Pond in Charlestown Rhode Island.

This was a first visit for me. It's a very beautiful place. Walking on the beach is breathtaking. You can see Block Island from the shore. I collected some sand and shells. It was a great visit, I hope to go back one day.💜

The only thing that makes this campground is the location. Sitting in a dusty parking lot 10ft from your neighbors is no fun , especially when generators are running. Generator off time is 800 pm . Portable toilets are always full . Dry camping at its finest….

This is one of those idyllic spots still left in Rhode Island to camp by a beach. And one goes camping by the beach you would normally expect to hear the sound of the waves and the ocean breezes that accompany just hanging out in nature. But sadly this is no longer the case here. My family and I have camped for 40 years and have observed a number of evolutions over the past decade in camping etiquette, manners and hospitality. At the Charlestown Breachway State Park Camping location, campers need to be fully self contained as there are absolutely no facilities on site. Just a patch of sand by the beach to park your camper and hang out. As such, they allow generators to run from 8am to 8pm. And that's where things fall apart. Because at the dot of 8am there is a roar around the camping area that jolts you out of a sound sleep, caused by numerous campers firing up their generators......... And they run all day. And these aren't small generators, they're 12,000 to 15,000 watt jobbers, the type you might find at a heavy construction site. Presumably they must need something that large to power their 40 foot motorhomes, which occupied at 3/4 of the occupied camp sites. At the end of the day this once treasured spot has now become a noisy, congested parking lot for giant houses on wheels. And if that's your bag, you will love it. But it definitely wasn't for me.

Spent the afternoon here, it was very nice. The water was crystal clear. There were RVs there but we stayed near the beach.

Interesting take on an alternative to the beach ... I'm not a big fan of the beach itself, but I kind of dig this place ...

Public beach with RV camping. The beach lot fills early. Make camping reservations a year in advance. Get a shellfish license and go clamming. Beautiful beach. No concession stand so bring a cooler. There is a roadside stand about a mile away that has food, drinks, alcohol, ice cream. Great waves. Lots of nice sand.
