Such an awesome and quick hike. Go as early as you can as people start arriving in droves. The lake is little and peaceful. It’s a nice spot to spend a few hours. I’ve been up here during fall and winter and I love both times. Highly recommend
This hike was short and sweet but it was mostly up hill. Also it’s kind of anti climactic when you arrive at the lake hot and sweaty and you are presented with a posting that says no swimming, wadding, or any touching of the water whatsoever. No cooking off in the water, sorry, just get to look at it. Tigger salamanders are all over.
Enjoyable and very scenic hike in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Since the gate at the base was still closed for the season, we started our hike at Albion Base and followed the somewhat groomed walking trail through the woods and through what will surely become the prime area for wildflower viewing in about 2 weeks or so. Then we reached the Albion Basin Parking Lot and began a more typical rocky mountain trail with stream crossings and hiking on and around many loose rocks and some boulders. Near the top of the trail, there are two or three switchbacks along with some very big rocks that made the hike quite interesting and required thoughtful navigation. All of them were relatively easy to maneuver. Cecret Lake was truly beautiful this time of year. The lake was full, including a small amount of overflow through a very tiny spillway, and there was still some snow on the far side of the lake along with a small ice island floating in the middle of the lake. It looked awesome for a mid July hike. As the sun went down over the ridgeline, the lake and the surrounding areas took on a beautiful glow. This was a good time to depart the lake and head back to our car. We made it back well before dark. AllTrails says the roundtrip trail is 4.5 miles, which seems about right. Ignore the sign at Albion Basin Parking Lot which says that Cecret Lake is only 0.4 miles away. We estimated the lake is approximately 1 - 1.25 miles away from that point.
Cecret Lake is a small alpine lake near the Alta Ski Resort. In summer it is a great morning hike if you want to beat the heat. The trail is well established and provides excellent views of Little Cottonwood Canyon, Sugarloaf Mountain, and Devil's Castle. The lake has many tiger salamander larvae (basically wild axolotls swimming around in it. The east side of the lake seemed to have more of them swimming near the shored than the west side.
Fantastic hike with a nice lake payoff.
Awesome hike trail. Sometimes you have to walk on the rocks, but not so difficult for kids. We saw some squirrels and salamanders at the lake.
Beautiful hike. Not too difficult. There are two places you can start -- a lower or higher parking lot. The lower one makes the hike two or three times longer, but it's still not too difficult and there are beautiful views all along the way. This hike is not available during winter.
Awesome trail. Easy enough for kids and beautiful to say the least. It was a great hike and an amazing day trip.
We had a great time at Rustler Lodge! The staff, especially those who worked in the lobby and dining areas, were just superb. Couldnât have been nicer, or more friendly and attentive. We plan to return next year!
Just a tremendous place. I have probably been here 15 out of the last 20 years, and I never fail to enjoy myself. It has some of the most Varied terrain of any ski area Iâve been at. Champagne powder. A skiers Paradise.
