Tucked away, off the side of the road in Hector. Would not have known about it, had it not been for the at the ranger station.
Parking lot to the water, round trip, was about a mile and a half. Remember, when you go downhill call me have to walk back uphill. Pretty challenging, but not a long walk. The scenery from the lake was absolutely beautiful. Pack a lunch and spend some time taking in the beautiful sight.
Caywood Point, home to "The Castle of the Queen" is located on 414 between Bagley's Popular Ridge Vineyards and Shalestone Vineyards (lake side of the street). There is a parking area with a nice "outhouse" at the start of the trail.
The terrain is somewhat challenging, with almost a few hundred feet in elevation drop. This is not handicap friendly. It will take some level of skill and attention to safely descend and climb back out (switchbacks etc.). Some portions of the trail were "washed out". It is more challenging that other trails in the area.
However once you get to the bottom you can see the historic "Castle of the Queen". It was locked, but there are signs explaining it's historic significance. There were also a couple spots where it appears people camp. We did see someone in a hammock with screen and some camping supplies. The views were great.
HINT: It's easier to go down than up. Allow for added time on the ascent.
Very cool spot! Steep short hike. Fairly isolated area once you get down to "Queen's Castle." Listed on the National Register of Historic places. Even a clean bathroom facility at the parking area.
If you can handle a sharp incline/decline down to Caywood, it's well worth it. Beautiful location and lots of blackberries and diversity of plant life
Amazing quiet little spot that seems off the beaten path. Excellent place for a quiet picnic. Nice tables and places for bon fire.
It is a bit challenging to get there, there's a 20% grade and switchbacks near the end.
Beautiful view at the bottom. Nice rocky trail to the bottom. Not a very long hike but gets steeper at the end. Historic site of the queens house at the bottom. Also there is a boat dock if you plan on coming via water. If you had some ambition you could walk to Bagleys or Caywood winery from here.
Nice peaceful spot, pretty secluded with only a small area to camp with fire rings and picnic tables right near the water. Nathrooms only at the top of the trail near parking and the hike back up is not for the faint of heart! Nice place to read a book or swim or just enjoy nature.
Google Maps sent us to a private road but H38 just north of the private road is the correct route. Very serene and private area with a view of the lake. Grade is not too steep (more than 20% grade though) but switchbacks make the short hike doable.

There is a vast selection of vineyards to choose from when visiting the finger lakes. I would recommend adding Hazlitt to your list. Wine tasting is $10. There is an excellent selection of wine, which is great for people with all different preference
My wife and I came here for dinner. The food was excellent. âStonecat was doing farm to table before it became coolâ is what the owner of the house we rented said. The setup is nice and simple. Grab a table thatâs open, look over the menu, orde
