Really enjoyed! 3 floors of exhibits including pottery, musical instruments and a courthouse. Free but appreciates donations. Had fun.
Love museums, and even better that they are in old buildings. This place is in a 1924 courthouse and has lots of cool displays. I love that you can visit the commissioners floor and it’s very clean. They have a small kids room with dress up items, etc. To top it all off, the admission is free.
Becoming Part of Newton's History During our exploration trip accross Catawba County (approx. 50 mi NW from our base in Charlotte) we decided to check out the area's History Museum. A sweet lady, Jessica, welcomed us and gave us some instructios on how to get the most out of our self-guided tour of the museum that artfully displays its exhibits in the setting of Catawba County's 1924 Courthouse in downtown Newton. What we and Herold Little (our company mascot) saw and experienced can best be described through the photos attached so you may want to enjoy these before you come to visit Newton yourself! We at PHIL'S WORLD TRAVEL suggest all our customers to invest some hours to visit Newton and its impressive vicinity when in the area. You'll love it. And its lovely residents as well!
This was a nice place to visit while roaming the North Carolina countryside. Very informative exhibits in what was the old catawba county courthouse. Best part of it all the entrance fee was 0.00.
Such an impressive display of how our Nation has maintained our freedom - and EXCELLENT place to visit, regardless of age!
Very interesting museum. It has information and real artifacts from the polio era. Hickory had its own polio hospital that started out as tents and the community built it into a hospital. Hickory was one of the places with the lowest death rates during the polio epidemic. Upstairs is the original courthouse built in 1924. There are two jury boxes. One on the east side and one on the west side of the room. This allowed the jurors to change sides, depending on the sun so they wouldn’t get to warm!!! It has a 1930 race car, an original British coat from the Revolutionary War, and a doctors office and instruments from the early 1900’s. I learned a great deal and enjoyed the whole museum!. I had a special needs adult with me and he was so interested in many of the artifacts and was reading the information on the items. The information was displayed in a format easy to read and not overwhelming. The only thing I would like to have had was a map or pamphlet that would have allowed me to carry some of the information with me!!! Very diverse and extremely interesting.
Cute museum shockingly interesting antiquities it was a pleasant tour full of pleasant history you’d not have imagined before going.
Super interesting museum with clean and detailed exhibits!
