Castaway Beach Inn - Motel in North Myrtle Beach - 1717 S Ocean Blvd, USA

I am assuming that we had one of the good rooms(compared to other reviews). The bed was very comfortable. The sheets were a little threadbare but for a last minute trip—the price was great. Didn’t use the stove etc because if wanted to cook would have stayed at home! Besides the food and the drinks here are great(just don’t ask for tea!) The margarita I had was really good! Glad we stayed here despite some of the reviews I saw. But the place could use new carpeting in the rooms at least.

We just arrived and after waiting to get my key card to work for 10 minutes we were met with what I can only say is a poor excuse for a hotel room. Small bathroom. Dirty (and wet) carpet. Dirty cupboards. Stiff and springy beds. Horrible parking amenities. The only nice thing is the location and that’s what gave it 2 stars. Taking a shower will be pointless after walking out of the tub. Not impressed. Honestly wish we would’ve spent the extra $2,000 for a half decent room. This is awful.

It was a situation where you get what you paid for. I wish that I had spent more money to get a nicer place it would have been worth it to me, but lesson learned. Pros- fun pool, Friendly staff, cheap price No bugs, clean sheets. The room in the other building was nicer and it was the cheaper one. Cons- no elevator, and we were on the 3rd floor. Refrigerator was weird, it seemed like you had to pick whether you wanted it to be a freezer or a fridge. Place definitely outdated and in need of major updates. Balcony had a pipe hanging down. The worst part was I booked 2 rooms and was expecting them to be side by side and when we arrived our rooms were in two separate buildings. I even called to make sure that was what we were getting and no one on the phone told me that they weren’t, just said they are not connected their rooms are side by side. They said they would put that on our notes. It took a lot for us to come so I would have liked to at least be side by side. They should have called and suggested something, or even when I called. It was doable and not horrible but I would never book here again.

Honestly the rooms are horrible, they were musty, dirty and insect filled. We ended up cleaning and sparying the room down are self. I mean in the nicest way possible this place is a dump. It is legitimately falling apart. I mean if you don't like clean rooms and good customer service then this is the shack for you. We waited 7 day's for maintenance to bring us batteries for the remote and they never did, we had to buy are own. We asked on day 2 of being there. There was a really nice house keeper though, I wish I could remember her name. She took really good care of us the whole time. She gave us plenty of towels or whatever we needed. Price was ok but could have been better for the shape of the hotel. We will definitely try somewhere else next time, bar was the best thing about the whole place.

Get what you pay for...... Rooms are DATED and the carpet has a nasty feeling to it. Air conditioning filters should be changed, have a stale smell. Beds are comfortable, and walls are very solid......hence room was Quiet. Decent "working class" visitors are staying there. The Beach Bar set up is actually nice.

The rooms were clean. We had a great view of the beach and ocean from our balcony. The website is a little misleading with descriptions things like the lazy river. Also does not disclose that the lazy river is even closed for the rest of the year. But that's what we asked about the use of pool and lazy river after we had already checked in. But we still enjoyed our stay and would recommend when you need last minute accommodations.

Staff was friendly, the tiki bar & pool were nice. Location is good, right on the beach. The room itself was pretty bad. The staff will not clean the rooms during the stay "due to COVID" - you put your trash & towels in front of your door & they leave more trash bags & towels. We could hear other rooms, kids were running around kicking doors late one night after the office had closed and no staff was around. There was a kitchenette, but only 1 plate and 1 pot with 2 lids (but neither fit the pot) so the kitchen was not really useful unless you bring your own stuff. The whole place is kinda run down, as the attached pictures show. Overall there are better places on Ocean Dr for the same or better price. We won't stay there again.

We read the bad reviews but we liked the idea of a tiki bar. We're pretty easy to please. Big mistake. Disgusting, we brought our own bedding and it's the only way we got through our stay. Rooms really are filthy,. Wore flip flops always because carpet had literally melted into the floor and it was sticky. NOT clean. Maids don't even have a decent vacuum. It's old and rusty like the appliances in rooms. Cigarette butts, hairballs, trash everywhere outside. Gross. NEVER AGAIN. There are so many places to get a room for the same price and be able to relax in a clean, welcoming space. Go somewhere else! No one should spend their hard earned money to stay here! And the ceilings are mush. And the "nice" owners and maids obviously do not care. They should all be embarrassed and it's disturbing that they aren't. Pathetic. I took pictures but don't see where I can post. Just believe me.
