This place provided a phenomenal educational experience for our group of 25 young adults from L.A. Kudos to the founder and owner who is a professor and historian, with deep knowledge of everything in the museum. Will definitely return and spend more time there.
Giving this rating because the place was not open. Although the sign said open at 12 and the website stated it was open but it was not. Tried calling but only got voice-mail. Really wanted to visit and will try again one day. If and when I do I hope to change the rating.
There's a lot of information to be seen but you can tell when a tour guide doesn't know what they're giving you a your on. The door fee is super inexpensive and you get a study guide to take notes on. Not a good place to visit for folks with a physical disability.
It's an African Museum in San Diego that is operated by one if the Black Studies professors at San Diego State University. A lot historical things there from Africa, Black America, black Europeans if you want a real deal history this is a great place to come.
Professor Chuck Ambers is a wealth of information. He is charming and funny and engaging as a tour guide. I learned more during my visit than he could ever begin to forget. I work for a top university and have every intention to invite him to give a talk next semester - our students, staff, faculty and community members at large will be all the better for having attended. This museum has so many amazing things but the best part is you walk away wanting to learn more.
#oldsmithbarbershopllc approved. Professor Chuck's knowledge is invaluable. Thanks again.
Must See In Old Town
Wonderful find in Old Town to get a unique perspective of African history and the history of Black people in the new world. Also, a lot of history about local Black culture. We have visited many museums and this one is well worth your time. DW/SW
Spent 30 minutes. I'd love to visit for a whole day and soak in the culture Professor Chuck provides.

What an awesome place! Lots of vintage cars here from 1895 to 1914 or so. I would guess this one of the largest collections of cars of this era in the San Diego area.
Also, a collection of model trains, cameras, dolls, irons for clothes, and much mo
