Casa Báez - Mexican restaurant in Salem - 1292 Lancaster Dr NE NE, USA

This is the second time I've had an encounter like this. The first time, I put sweetener in my water and was chastised by the manager about how I was costing them money by not buying drinks. I canceled my order that time and left as well. This time my husband and I decided to take another chance, and this time the waiter told us he couldn't give us any more salsa than what they had already given us which was just the small bowl for both of us. The people behind us were asking for more chips, and they we're told they couldn't have anymore also. Thus we got up and went to pay for my husband's soda, and they said no, that's on the house. I felt like they weren't doing us any favors and insisted they take the money for the soda, and they insisted I not. They lost $50 in food orders by us leaving. I would venture to guess that was more costly than just giving us another small bowl of salsa. The first time was $35 , which I had canceled. It sucks because the food is good, but the intriguity is non-existent!

Went into Casa Baez to grab a quick bite before my appointment. 45 minutes later, I still had not receive the single Taco that I ordered. I left very disappointed and hungry. It should not take 45 minutes to make one taco. My server never came by.

Terrible food! Worst I’ve ever eaten. Chile rellenos made from two tiny strips of canned chiles, lukewarm lump of canned refried beans, tasteless rice and salsa and a watery sauce on the rellenos made from a cup of water with a tiny bit of tomato sauce which drowned the lettuce and tomato and everything else. And who can’t make a taco?—Casa Baez that’s who! People who say it’s ‘hands down the best’ have probably never eaten at Taco Bell because even that is better. And the prices are super high for tiny portions of lousy food. I guess that’s a blessing and a curse’

We hadn't dined there for awhile. Used to be a good place to eat. There was a lot of seating available but the worker was rude to us and made us wait standing so we left.

Seemed like a pretty typical day in Salem today, nothing big or exciting going on pretty much the same thing going on everyday. I ordered a combo which was chicken enchilada and a tamale with a glass of water. My father ordered the Wally burrito and sangria and his wife ordered ..... something..... and a strawberry daiquiri. He said it was good she said here was good. I've eaten here long ago and had forgotten about it. Mine was bland the chicken inside was meh and it wasn't very filling. The waitress kept coming back to the table and it left you feeling like you were being rushed out. The rest of the staff stood around huddled at the host counter talking and laughing making you feel awkward while looking at the customers. It made you feel like you were an inside joke. Thumbs down for me on this visit. It came out to $56 The corn chips are only partly made there the corn tortillas are delivered, the flour tortillas are made there. The water in the fountain mounted on the wall had Yellow water. It looked disturbing. When I left Salem I felt empty not full. All the people and kids that were out focused on the Sales today at the stores and Toys'R'Us.

Most mediocre Mexican food ever! My enchilada was wrapped in polenta not a tortilla and my plate was so laden with sauce that everything was saturated. I actually used my spoon to slurp it up like soup!

Absolutely ridiculous service!! If I could give no star I would!!! When my group arrived, the workers made it extremely clear that they did not want to serve us. We have never had such rude servers at this restaurant before. We walked in and heard the servers talking about how big our group was. We were confronted with a server that told us with an attitude that they would not be able to sit our group together despite them having a whole unoccupied section where they usually seat our group with no problem. When we were leaving, my group had already left extremely good tips taking account the service we received- however one of the workers had the audacity to tell one of my family members if they weren’t gonna tip. My family member was rudely asked this two times before responding that our group already tipped- and the waiter was rude enough to say “You guys need to learn how to give better tips” I just want to say, tips are given when customers receive good service… the service we received today was far from that. So to the waiters, learn how to give better customer service in the future because it’s absolutely disgusting to talk back to customers like that, especially considering the fact that without customers you would have no job. We will not be coming here again! Mother’s Day was ruined!

I have been eating at the Baez family restaurant since 1973. It is our families go to restaurant. I have been sad that the commercial st one closed but at least Lancaster was open. Last night my sister and I ate there: we waited almost two hours to eat and when we started getting hangry the staff was very defensive followed by fully ignoring us. When the food came the sauce was watered down; the quacamole quesadillas (my usual order for the last 50 years) there was almost no avocado and there was an excess of damp shredded lettuce but no tomato (which has always accompanied the quesadilla). My sisters black beans were clearly tipped from a can. Also our bill seemed high: almost $50 for two dinners with two sodas and no appetizers or booze. That said the Chile rellano was great; and the salsa was the usual yum. Not enough to bring me back any time soon. This was a disappointing experience to say the least. Disappointing food and service that I paid too much for.
