This was a special anniversary trip. Lovely house. We received an upgrade because the room we booked had electrical issues. Joselyn, the hostess is very personable. However, when we arrived, we were informed that breakfast, Monday though Friday was Continental. Had we known that (it wasn’t mentioned on the listing) we would have stayed somewhere else. Our favorite part of Bed and Breakfast is the breakfast. Also, I had to fill the Keurig with bottled water as it was almost dry when I went down, and I had to fill it several times that morning (we drink a lot of coffee). In addition, there were no cup sleeves and the lids did not for the cups. A huge disappointment. WIFI in the room was too weak to support streaming. Considering the lack of breakfast (absolutely no protein) it was definitely not worth the money.

Loved our time here! Came for a romantic weekend getaway from Houston. The mansion is gorgeous from the outside, and the owner did such a great job cleaning up this historic building and ensuring it's very clean on the inside, yet retrained almost every drop of its character from the last 200 years. Rooms were very clean, beds extremely comfortable, and very cool aesthetic. The hostess is very very nice and accommodating. Goes out of her way to ensure you have everything you need, and more. Makes lots of great local recommendations. And breakfast is delicious (served on weekends). Nothing but good things to say! Will be coming back here when we return to Galveston.

My wife and I spent Labor Day weekend 2023 at Carr Mansion and we had an amazing stay. We stayed in the Carriage House behind the main house, and we loved it. Joellyn, the owner, was very hospitable and routinely checked if we needed anything. She offered us drinks on our arrival. My wife liked some cookies that were available, and she provided a package of them for her later that night. Joellyn had breakfast catered by renowned Chef Mary Bass, and it was quite delicious. Delicious breakfast casserole and tamales. It was very close to the Strand and the Seawall, so everything we did was just a short drive. We will definitely be returning to try another room at the Mansion!

My husband and I stayed in Carr Mansion for 4 nights and we had a fabulous time. We stayed in The Merchant room upstairs and it was large, comfortable and quiet. We spent our evenings sitting out in the beautiful patio/terrace at the back of the house. It was so peaceful. The lady who runs the house, Joellyn, was so nice and went out of her way to ensure our stay was perfect. She was always available if we had any questions or need anything. She also cooked us a very nice breakfast.|We will definitely be returning guests.|Thank you, Joellyn.

My first comment is to Run.Run as fast as you can away from this place. I attended an event here recently and I was not impressed with what I didn’t receive as promised for the price I paid!! Rooms were nice I will give her that but false advertisement does not make good partners. No complementary drinks were offered, no bath robes provided, and no buffet breakfast would be provided as described by website. When asked about the lack of these amenities, her only comment was no one stays and eats, so it’s wasted food so I’m not providing anything. Then she backtracked and offered mini muffins along with coffee and juice , despite our stay being a weekend which on her website stated buffet breakfast. The host attempted to advise the owner that all of the guest staying were not going to leave and could she reconsider. She said the host could pay for some casseroles a friend of hers could make but the host kindly declined. I was warned by the owner upon arrival, that a dead rat was in a wall of the dressing room downstairs so the only available downstairs bathroom was unavailable for the event guests unless the candles could cover the smell that afternoon. She was not going to open the room until the next day. We were also told no late checkouts because she had the rooms rented and need to clean so we needed to be gone by 11. We had to ask for toiletries towels and know where to find the toilet paper.||The next morning the guest staying there were provided with a marvelous breakfast that the host of the event provided themselves. NOT THE OWNER! We at least did not have to leave go get food and come back and forth as the host was most generous to us. ||When the caterer arrived that afternoon to set up they were locked out of the kitchen. The owner gave multiple excuses which not one was the same as to why they could not use the kitchen .She couldn’t make up her mind which excuse to give -that it was just closed or it was being remodeled. The host of the event, I believed was extremely frustrated but carried on bravely despite the issues. ||The owner never provided coffee as promised using a large percolator but had the Kuerig available, juice was not provided as promise and the coffee pods used were not replaced. Not to mention the creamers were curdling the coffee. || It is very apparent that the money she is taking in is not being spent on any upgrades on what is a historical home that is in need of repairs.||Like I said the beds and pillows were comfortable. Extra blankets were needed but none were to be had. And no one to call to find where to get any. There were no instructions on how to heat the rooms or how to get to a channel on the tv. Nothing really seemed to work in our favor that weekend. It was like here’s remotes for things, you’re on your own. Maybe a note in each room on how to use the remotes for the heat and tv’s would be beneficial. Plus having the Wi-Fi password in each room as well and not posted downstairs hidden. Each room had a small frig but nothing in them to greet their guest. Surely those small bottles of water could not cost that much?||One of the guest staying there for the event was informed that she could not take a hot shower because there would not be enough water to allow her that. Also the same guest had issues with the shower and when the owner FINALLY called back she suggested the GUEST take the shower head off and clean it! The host kindly suggested she have someone come fix the issue since the guest were exactly that -guest not employees.||The final morning we departed the owner showed up at 10, before we were suppose to be out of our rooms at 11. As we decided to go ahead and leave she confronted the host asking if she could call the guest in the bungalow to come in and settle her account!! Kindly the host sent a text message and as we got in our cars to depart she yelled from the top of the stairs -“did you call them.” To which the host replied “I sent a text,” and we left. I’m sorry, this is not a way to treat people and we are not your employees. Also be aware that surveillance is there somewhere???!!||If you are considering an event GET A CONTRACT AND BE SPECIFIC. This will eliminate headaches and ulcers. Plus protect everyone involved or go somewhere else. I will not be a returning guest.

My husband and I stayed in the “Newlyweds Room” at Carr Mansion. (Each room is cleverly named after a piece of the inn’s rich history.) Built in 1866, this historic, landmark home hosts just 14 guests at full capacity. Joellyn works tirelessly to ensure her guests have a clean, comfortable, friendly stay. From the moment we arrived, she personally attended to our needs above and beyond our expectations of a host. We know this type of service comes at a personal cost and so appreciated her time and effort. A hotel is just a hotel; but Carr Mansion is a home and you will feel that cozy sense of belonging with each day of your stay. We highly recommend Carr Mansion if you are planning a visit to Galveston. As a bonus, it’s conveniently located near The Strand and the cruise ship port.

Do not think that this is a bed and breakfast because it is NOT! I attended an event recently where the event host did all the work. The owner boast a welcoming drink upon arrival, weekend breakfast buffet, and complementary bath robes! NONE of this was provided as she states on her website. The owner greeted me as I was paying for my room, with the fact that she had a dead rat in the downstairs room where the event guest were to have bathroom privileges on Saturday , only IF the odor had dissipated . But it was closed for the Friday gathering the host of the event was providing that night. We were told to use our rooms. Ok no problem and safer?!! The morning meal again was provided by the event host NOT THE OWNER. Thank God for the event host or we would have been on our own! It was noted that the event host seemed stressed but did their best to make sure we were provided for since the owner failed to even provide orange juice or replace the coffee pods. The coffee creamer curdled in the coffee, but nothing was done by the owner to replace it. The biggest stressor came when the owner refused to open the kitchen for the caterer stating she was remodeling one day and that it was closed on another day. She didn’t seem to remember which excuse she had used to tell the host, but no work was seen and no excuse as to why it was closed. She was rude to the event host when they confronted her about nothing being said the caterer would not be allowed in. She didn’t care and the caterer would have to prep the food at the bar counter. Kudos to the caterer who went with the flow but why did she not have a straight answer for the host? Maybe more dead vermin?? These were a few issues. One guest had a shower not working and when she was called she told the host to have the guest clean the shower head. The event host reminded her that these were guest not employees and suggested she have someone come out. 6 hours later the issue was solved BUT the guest was told there was not a lot of hot water and not expect a hot shower. Sunday morning we gathered in the dining room preparing to check out at the designated time of 11, when the owner showed up at 10. Comments were made by her referring to the event, music and groups that arrived. We were wandering how the owner knew about the music and conversations since she wasn’t there. Conclusion? Possible surveillance cameras? Next she approached the host of the event asking her to call one of the guest to come settle her bill??!!! The host sent a text and we got up to leave. As we were entering our car out front she yelled at the host stating “ Did you call——-?” The host politely told her she had sent a text message to them. Where does it become a host of an events responsibility to contact a guest to pay their bill! This owner needs classes on management, and professionalism. And out and out curtesy. If you are hosting an event book somewhere else or make her sign a contract. It will help with loss of memory when confronted on what was promised.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience staying at the Carr Mansion this past weekend. The entire bed and breakfast is gorgeous. Each room has its own style and character. We stayed in “The Preacher”. It is beautiful with a luxurious king bed and the coolest bathtub! The proprietor at the mansion, Joellyn, is the nicest and most welcoming hostess. She cooks breakfast for the guests every morning and her waffles are delicious! Saturday afternoon she hosted a happy hour with open bar on the first floor of the mansion. It was a great opportunity to hang out with Joellyn and meet some of the other guests staying at the bed and breakfast. Because it was a stormy weekend, my wife and I did not get the chance to visit the beach; staying at Carr Mansion made the trip well worth our time! We would highly recommend anyone looking to visit Galveston book a stay at Carr Mansion! Very much looking forward to visiting this beautiful bed and breakfast sometime again soon.
