Girl Scout Troop 40185 loves visiting, meeting, and selling cookies at the Museum! Thank to the staff got always accommodating and welcoming us!
So this is a fun place! “The only cardboard boat museum in the world”. The operators are so friendly and enthusiastic about every display. I suggest a visit!
We visited here Tuesday 13, July 2021 at about 5 pm. This place is amazing. If you are going to be anywhere close, GO THERE! They do have limited hours that they are open, so please check their hours so you can plan to be there when they are open. In addition to this amazing museum, they have a cardboard boat race every year in August. Many of the boats are fund raisers providing you an opportunity to donate. The people were extremely friendly. We bought a T-shirt. The view of the river is beautiful. Buy-the-way, did I mention it is free. And, they raise money for disabled veterans.
There are less cardboard boats to look at than I might have hoped, but it was still cool to talk to the guys, hang out on the deck, and look at their driftwood shot glass holders.
The name says it all, there are cardboard boats in this museum. It's a fun location and the staff is knowledgeable about building cardboard boats. These boats are built the traditional way: cardboard, paint, and tape. The museum highlights so many successful boats built this way. If the Titanic was built the traditional way, it may not have sunk (citation needed). Imagine one of the biggest movies released in the last thirty years not existing because tape was used instead of these fancy "new" methods (another citation needed for sure). Visiting this museum is a great time and takes way less time than watching Titanic. Leo could have lived if that door was made of cardboard, paint, and tape (citation needed).
A unique little gem situated on the banks of the Ohio River with a spectacular view out back. Located in a quaint river village, New Richmond, Ohio, a village with an amazing and important history, The museum is a fun place to visit. The great people there love visitors and are filled with fun stories about the museum and the wonderful fun filled regatta that is held each year in the village each August. Amazing cardboard boats, each one unique in design and theme, from past races that 'raced and survived to tell about it" are on display.
I didn't get to interact with the staff, but this little museum did have some interesting boats made of just corrugated cardboard, paint, and duct tape. (Some had extra accessories for display!) The museum is smaller than I expected, but they maximized that space by using the walls and ceiling. I wouldn't go too far out of my way to visit, but if you know someone who loves to build with cardboard (or if you've caught that bug yourself!), it can be a fun activity to kill a few minutes in a nice little town on the Ohio River.
Would have been nice to get inside. We got there before posted closing but it was locked.
