My husband and I recently stayed at this B&B, along with four other family members, in order to attend a funeral in Fall River. We all traveled from different parts of the country and chose this property as our "home" during this difficult time. We really couldn't have been more pleased. Pauline was an excellent host. She was very accommodating and sweet. She made us feel very welcomed and allowed us to feel quite at home. Her kitchen was immaculate and was next to an elegant dining room. There was a cozy living room, where the six of us were able to be together and enjoy each others' company. My husband and I occupied the ground floor bedroom which was very beautiful and homey. The property also had a lovely area in the back which had a bridge over a small brook and sitting areas with candles and a candlelit candelabra hanging from a tree. We really enjoyed sitting out there together as well. I disagree with the above post regarding the need for the property to be updated, as we found the decor to be exactly in line with what we had expected the B&B to exhibit; that of an 18th century home. Although this visit was based on a sad event, we all really enjoyed staying at this B&B, and Pauline was a caring and excellent host.

The husband and I stayed at this charming B&B while attending a college football game at University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth (conveniently located about 5 minutes away). When you pull into the driveway there is plenty of parking in the back behind the house and beyond the lot is a small field where we saw a few deer and ducks early in the morning. ||||Upon entering this beautiful home, we felt like we were taking a trip back into Grandma's house when she was a child. Antiques, figurines, decorative plates and period pieces of furniture lingered every where you looked. The elegant dining room off the kitchen, held a few round tables with pretty tablecloths, for guests to enjoy delicious freshly baked muffins and fruit with coffee or juice in the mornings. Across from this room was a small sitting room with a couch, chair and an old Zenith TV (that still worked) and 2 more guest rooms were upstairs.||||Our delightfully decorated room on the first floor included a comfortable queen-sized bed, small sitting area with a table and 2 chairs by the window, a wardrobe hiding a pull out TV and a private bathroom with small standup shower. For those who are wondering there is an AC unit in the one window to keep you cool on warmer nights.||||When we finally met our wonderful host, Pauline - she was so incredibly accommodating and sweet, we could have talked to her for hours. She made us feel extremely welcome and at home - and even brought us back cupcakes from a wedding she had attended the weekend we stayed there. ||||I definitely recommend the Captian Otis Thatcher House for a bit of peace and relaxation, instead of the hustle and bustle of too many guests in an elevator at the local hotel. Besides, I think Pauline would totally love the company.

I stayed at this Dartmouth B & B in early Dec 2013 for 4 nights during a visit to family. The hostess Pauline was sweet and friendly and had an easy, relaxed approach. Breakfast was set up in the dining for me each day (home baked muffins and a fresh fruit plate plus big thermos jug of coffee). Being the only guest there and with my room on the ground floor it was easy to dash to the dining room (in pajamas!) and bring the breakfast to my room to eat at the table in the window. The dining room is small and elegant with some attractive pieces; but overall the ground floor is extremely cluttered. However everyone's taste is different and I wasn't particularly bothered. But be warned EVERY surface is covered - if you are looking for a minimalist look this is the polar opposite!||As for the room it has a big, very comfortable bed, the afore-mentioned table and chairs as well as a small rocking chair. Nicely concealed in a wardrobe is the tv. ||||The only negatives were I felt the room could use updating, the frame around the mirror above the bed was really dusty and the Philadendron plant winding its way up the wall has to go!||At $100 a night for a single person it wasn't the bargain of the century but it was warm and cozy and I would certainly stay there again.

probably the only adjective available to describe this place would be.. outstanding. from the quiet country setting watching the deer in the morning on the patio with chipmunks and squirrels running all around to the clean and comfortable rooms, cut fresh fruit, assortment of muffins and fresh scones in the morning and Pauline's friendly, affable nature make Captain Otis f Thatcher bed and breakfast a must stay when you're in the area. close to everything and only an hour from the cape or Boston and 30 minutes from providence, anywhere you want to go in New England is easily accessible as it is only 5 minutes to the interstate.
