ROOM 5: We came for our 5 year anniversary and it was exactly what we were looking for. Pros- walking distance to all shops, restaurants, bars and beach. The end of the parking area had access to a non crowded/quiet beach area and we were still able to walk along the water to the main beach area near the restaurants. We didn’t have to drive our car once while there. If we did go further than downtown, we rented electric bikes! Balcony was perfect to sit on while listening to the waves crash on the beach. Friendly staff. Clean facility. Cons- bathroom sink was a little smaller and in an awkward corner of the bathroom, but still nice/clean/remodeled (it seemed). Being right next to the street and stop signs was a little annoying due to all the cars speeding by/taking off from a stop to full speed. Overall it was an amazing experience and the cons were not deal breakers for us. Perfect location without breaking the bank. We’d definitely stay here again!
Room size is great, parking can be a bit confusing but we got a designated spot corresponding with our room number. Walking distance from restaurants, cafes and a convenience store. 3 minute drive from a plaza with a Whole Foods & CVS. Showers are a bit tight and the shower head is fixed, which makes showering a bit difficult if you're used to a detachable shower head (1st world problems). Would stay here again.
We have stayed at this hotel for years. A few years back they made some nice upgrades, added an elevator and the patio. The rooms are well appointed and every room has a view. The rooms could be a little more updated technology-wise, there are no USB ports in the room. And the outlets are a little sketchy. The beds are extremely comfortable. Pay attention to if your room comes with the parking stall, if not you get a permit and have to find Street parking. Walking distance to the Village. We park our car and don't leave until check out.
I was a little underwhelmed when we drove up. The rooms appeared very small from the outside. Once inside, I was presently surprised. They utilize the space very well! We had an amazing view of the water and the entire area. One side of the room was entirely patio doors. We had a nice balcony to sit out on that had two chairs and a table. The room is nicely updated with "granite" looking counters. The kitchenette comes with everything you need to eat a meal in your room, if you wanted to. The bed was so comfortable! I haven't slept that good in a long time! It has a nice common area overlooking the water that featured a gas fireplace. The only drawback I can think of is parking. We were in room 8 and it did not come with a dedicates parking spot. Apparently two rooms do not have parking spots. Parking can be difficult to find during the day. There are parking spots around the hotel. We lucked out! One spot opened up right by the hotel. We parked our car and never moved it the whole time we were there. They do give you a parking pass so that you can park in approved spots for free. Capitola is a beautiful little town and this is the perfect hotel for a relaxing time!
I cannot say enough positive things about this stay! The location is more than ideal. We stayed on the first floor and our view was spectacular. Each morning we opened our curtains to ocean, palm trees and sand. The beach is located just across the parking lot. Super fun for the kids. Thousands of birds to watch. Interior was everything we needed. It had a full kitchen which was awesome when traveling with a family. The place was comfortable and VERY clean! The staff went above and beyond to make sure that our questions were answered, our stay was comfortable and beyond that they contacted me after my stay because I left a very important document in the room. They made sure that I got this document back it was beyond my wildest dreams for a family vacation. Thanks so much! We'll be back.
UPDATE - The owner called and spoke with my daughter and the charge was backed out. The OWNER was VERY apologetic. My daughter is VERY grateful for the OWNER’s call. I suggest the office staff get some hospitality training. Other family members (us included) and friends have had unpleasant experiences with the office staff as well. The vibe is guests are a pain. I’d give this 0 stars if I could. This past Sunday, my husband showed up with our dog to pick up grandkids and bring them to our place for breakfast. Capitola Beach Suites tacked $275 to our daughter’s bill for our dog being on the premises — was there long enough to gather up the grandkids and leave—less than 5 minutes. The office didn’t care and has thus far refused to remove the charge. Really??
Aside from its great location, this hotel needs general maintenance, renovation, and better service. The bed linens, lamp, closet door (hanging cockeyed), etc. is all really old; baseboards in bathroom are rotting away, big cobwebs line the walkways, elevator is broken, so have to haul stuff up 1 to 3 flights of very narrow, steep stairs. Room was very hot (no A/C) and only way to get air is to open both sliders all night (put a wooden pole in bottom to prevent opening all the way). Room shared a balcony with another room with no divider in place, so having sliders open all night didn't feel safe. Check-in is 4 to 5ish pm, so don't assume you can arrive anytime. Luckily, we called late afternoon, and the manager was reluctant to stay past 5:30, but agreed to stay as we arrived at 6 pm. Had we not called, I'm pretty sure we wouldn't have been able to check in to our room. Manager told us not to accidentally deactivate our room key because there was NO ONE to come and reactivate it. Our room came with a small carport parking space (8 feet across) with old mattresses and garbage cans in the back of it. We tried for an hour to park, and finally after scraping up one side of the car, we parked in the manager's space (he left immediately after giving us our room key), and in the morning, paid at a kiosk to avoid getting towed. If you get make-up on any towel, it's a $10 charge. I bet at one time (20 years ago), this hotel was very quaint, but today it needs major TLC!
My husband and I stayed on the second floor for one night. This is an older, quirky property with a definite Santa Cruz vibe. The bed was comfortable, WiFi worked well. We didn’t use the kitchenette other than making coffee. We had great views of the ocean from our room. You could sit at a little table on the balcony and just watch and listen to the waves. Just a few yards away, connected to our balcony, was a larger, common open air area with a fireplace. |We walked along the very near-by pier, to the very end. There’s a small restaurant that serves excellent food. You could explore the area on foot, there are many quaint little shops to visit. The manager as well as cleaning staff was very friendly. Please check out my photos!
Very good beer, nice staff, nice patio Despite being close to the highway, itâs very quiet on the patio (which has maybe ten tables). A choice of about ten beers on tap. We tried Pilsner, IPA and Porter. All good. Dogs welcome.
Beautiful stay. Just steps from downtown, yet private and romantic. Our room was spacious, clean and cozy; if thereâs something you need, just ask! Wonderful welcome from the owner & very accommodating staff. Breakfast was delicious. We will be ba
Vibrant coffee shop with tons of wonderful drinks. You're sure to find a flavor combo you like with so many delicious options. I got the Sicilian latte, many delicious flavors to get and combine with food and a colorful atmosphere. Definitely will be
Super fun place to eat because there are so many options to try. The Marionberry pie was just sweet enough. Roasted tomato ficelle (clothespin thin, foot-long sandwich) was addicting to eat and gone in a flash. Line is long but well-managed by frien
Beautiful day at the beach!!! Very few people mostly walking dogs. Little breezy and sunny. Calm ocean. Few birds. Clean open restrooms. Beach itself is a bit different from last year. Winter storms took a third of the beach out and pushed the rest c

This place is amazing! We spent over 3 hours here and my son didn't get bored at all. They did a very good job at using every single space & turned each space into a different learning experience. I also appreciate them being apart of the all kids ca
Great place. Those colorful little houses give their own character to the beach. If you are lucky and you visit on a clear day you will relax under the soft touch of the sun. On the other hand if the ocean gets more tricky you will have the opportuni
Amazingly beautiful! The views are breathtaking. The rooms are spacious, clean and relaxing. 5 minute walk to the beach yet set in peaceful seclusion. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I love it. I would say it's definitely my favorite spot.
