Candlewood Suites Syracuse-Airport, an IHG Hotel - Featured Reviews (629)
To start we arrived at the hotel some time after noon as a party of 7, my parents, my two sisters, my partner and my one of my sisters partners and we booked two rooms for one night. ||Upon walking into the hotel we were greeted to a literal construction site. There was a large tarp on the far end of the lobby which covered up something, presumably renovation work, and the ground had guys working on tiling. We had to walk over a cardboard walkway to get to our rooms. The front desk was staffed by two people, who didn’t have uniforms. Behind the front desk looked disorganized and on the front desk there was a pile of pillows and blankets. The staff at the front desk were very polite and helpful which is possibly the only good thing about this place. ||The walls of this place all have black streaks and smudge marks and every doorframe had dents and smudge marks near the handles. It looked horrible. ||First pair of rooms:|The room meant for my sisters, me and our partners didn’t have a fold out bed like we had booked. The room was clean, though I didn’t have to time to look around as we had pretty much went straight back to the front desk to get a new room. The room my parents stayed in smelt strongly of cigarettes, and they also switched rooms right away. ||Second pair of rooms: |Upon walking into the room we were staying in the smell of funk but mostly urine hit us. It was so bad it had my sister and I gagging. The tables in the rooms had what seemed to be oil or some residue form cleaning products, the fold out bed/couch looked like it had been there sense the 80s and had yellow stains on its pillows, the walls had splash marks from something and the windows, which we opened to try and air out the place had no screens so bugs could just fly in. The room was disgusting. ||My parents room was fine and they had pretty much the same problem we did but to a lesser extent and no urine smell. ||Third pair:|The woman who was looking after us was very polite and helpful and was able to get us two extra rooms, one for my parter and I and one for my two sisters and their partner. Our smelt like cleaner and funk when we walked in but wasn’t too bad smelling. At this point we left to go eat and shop and when we came back the room smelt like feet for some reason. My partner and I had just decided this is probably the best we’ll get and stayed in this room. ||The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. With the state this place is in I have no idea why it’s open for people to stay in. The more I look the grosser it gets. If you want to stay in a place that isn’t gross and doesn’t smell or look like a crack den go across the road at the holiday in.
We flew in for a family function on 06/07/24. The hotel smelled moldy and old. No snack are was available. We flew in at 11:30 PM. The room was absolutely disgusting, The pull out bed had old sheets on it, a sock from a previous visitor, and rust chips for the AC unit. The couch cushions looked like they had been there for decades. We went to the desk to get sheets and changed the beds because the room was definitely not clean. There was not additional sheets, blankets pillows in the room. The front desk attendant had to find a pillow for the couch bed. She was the only good thing about this hotel. The bathtub had chunks of pain missing on the bottom. The shampoo dispenser in the bathroom was broken. This normally would not have been an issue however AA lost our luggage. Not enough towels. Old cigarette stains from someone allowing their cigarette to burn on the counter. We were supposed to stay her Sunday night before we flew back to Tucson. However we decided to eat that reservation and reserved at the Holiday Inn Express. Definitely wont stay at this hotel chain again.
As noted, the Candlewood Suites is right down the road from the Syracuse airport. It was generally clean, if not a little beat up, and it had, a full-size refrigerator, microwave, sink, coffee maker, and a two-burner electric stove. There was even a little desk. The bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning worked well. In the opposite direction from the airport were a few decent restaurants and a Wegmans grocery store. Housekeeping only appeared once a week unless clean linens were requested.|There was a Holiday Inn express nearby. It looked newer, but it was more expensive and, I suspect, did not have the kitchen amenities.|All in all the Candlewood Suites was acceptable, and close to the airport. I would probably stay there again.
On the favorable side the bed was OK, and the bathroom was OK, the water was hot and there were adequate towels. However, the place was tired and poorly maintained. I have never been in a hotel where every door frame along the corridor was bashed-in from where the cleaning staff had crashed into the frame with their cart. (Are the cleaning staff sabotaging the place?) Some of the furniture was chipped, the countertop had burns, top of fridge looked as if acid had been poured on it. While passably clean some corners were grubby. The TV screen looked as if it had been wiped with a cleaning rag. The bathroom extraction fan and the coffee maker did not work. The kitchen faucet only delivered water on one side (not sure if hot or cold). Minimal dishes and silverware (often only one of each item). The price was good compared to most - I guess you get what you pay for!
If I could give negative stars I would. This hotel is a complete filth. Needs a major update just to get it somewhat decent. Floors are filthy. The cleanest thing in the room was……….. nothing! Oh and last but definitely not the least there was a used condom between the bed mattress….. wish I was joking but I’m so serious. DO NOT BOOK THERE!!!!!!!!!
Don't believe the posted pictures. This place is a dump!!! The first room had used washcloths in the bathroom and smelt moldy and stale. Second room very very slightly better but still smelled. Outdated appliances and TVs can't be bigger than 24". Unfortunately it was too late to cancel and had to sleep with my clothes on. That's how gross this room was. Would never stay here again at even half the price. Still too much!
I selected this hotel because they had inexpensive suites. We were attending an event downtown, approximately 15 minutes away. The hotel is in a convenient location and the room was clean. However, the elevator smelled moldy, and the cleaning supplies they use in the rooms had a slightly unpleasant odor. The mattress on the pullout couch was yellow and the mattress pad was shredded. I opted to sleep on the couch, and used the extra blanket provided as a barrier between me and the couch cushions. I was initially put in an incorrect room, and when I called down to the desk no one answered so I had to go all the way down to the lobby to have this corrected. The desk person was having a personal conversation which is why I assume they didn't answer the phone. 3 stars because it was clean and safe, but you get what you pay for and it looked as though the hotel hadn't been updated since the 80s.
I travel a lot, both for business and pleasure, and this was one of the worst hotel experiences of my entire life. Staff has no clue how to run a hotel. The place is filthy and long overdue for renovation. Hallways hadn't been vacuumed in months. A female traveling solo should never be placed on an empty floor at the very end of the hallway, miles away from the elevator. The hotel no longer offers airport shuttle, though it was listed on the website. The front desk didn't have a key to the pantry to make coffee in the early a.m. avoid this hotel until it is sold or gutted.
