Did the recipes get changed? Food was horrible. Their onion rings were my favorite, not anymore. They were gross and definetly not the same recipe was used. One bite and I was done. As for the service, waitress took our order brought us our drinks, said not one word to us, that was the last time we seen her until she put the bill on the table, again saying nothing, and walked away. We had to go to the bar to ask for silverware and napkins. Atmosphere was quiet, too quiet, you could here waitresses talking about there tip money. I will not return. Sad cuz I loved there original onion rings.

Bummed in this place lately. Have been here numerous times and food is always excellent, but last handful of times I’ve been here it’s gone way downhill. Food hasn’t been very good. Today I got a full sized Cesar salad in which the lettuce was brown and soggy…. Clearly old. There was also lots of random chunks of ground beef in it which makes me wonder how sanitary the utensils and area is where food is being prepared if things are getting mixed together. There were no croutons in it.. I paid extra for tomatoes and eggs and I think there was maybe barely one egg in it. Today may have been my last straw. Bummed as this used to be one of my favorite places. ———————————— **I just wanted to edit to add, since I cannot reply, that I would have addressed this had I dined in, but it was a to go order on a short lunch break. I will give it another go sometime since I love the atmosphere and staff is always pleasant. Thanks for the response.

It's really disheartening to see people leaving negative reviews without talking to the staff and giving them a chance to make things right. It's important to give feedback directly so they have a chance to address any concerns. What happened to supporting local businesses? In the short 2 months that Garrett has taken ownership there have been MANY improvements. The food is delicious, and the quality has noticeably improved. The atmosphere is inviting, and can accommodate a variety of people! The staff is friendly, attentive, and goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome. I cannot recommend this place enough..

Stopped in for a late lunch on a Thursday. Not too busy and sat at the bar. Bartender was attentive and keep full beers in front of us. Got the hot chicken sandwich and it was delicious!!!! I don’t like super spicy and i handled it just fine. One of the top 3 spicy chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had. It is located less than 5 minutes off Hwy 30, so don’t worry about that. I would highly recommend stopping in and I plan to next time I’m in the Marshalltown area.

Wait staff is amazing as usual! I ordered the grilled chicken wrap with chipotle ranch, it was absolutely delicious along with the sweet potato fries!!! The food was prepared timely and the owner came by to check on our table. Owner, Garrett Goodman, goes the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction.

Food and service was great! The best place for Bloody Mary's will definitely be back when I'm in town! The only thing I wish is your gallon bloody Mary's were cheaper. Other then that you won't be disappointed!

I do not live in Marshalltown but I visit very frequently for work. I started visiting a little over a year ago and the first place I was told I needed to eat at was Calvin Rockett because of their Rockett chips. I had them and the rest is history! Every time I come to town I eat dinner there at least once. I had our work Christmas dinner there last year and then again this year. Unfortunately this year I was informed by our awesome waitress that the Rockett chips were changed and are no longer thick like fried potatoes but are thin like potato chips? I asked why they would change them and was told new owners. So I asked if they could just cut them thicker and was told no and that she actually tried a Throwback Thursday to have the original style and was shut down. Extremely pissed now I figured I'd try these potato chips and boy was that a mistake. Thin, dry and over cooked was what they were and extremely disappointed. So to the new owner is the few pennies you save by shaving potato chips out of potatoes instead of slices like the place is known for worth losing customers altogether? The Rockett Chips weren't broken or a bank breaker so why change them?

Calvin's is definitely a spot to stop at if you are in Marshalltown! It recently has changed owners, but hasn't lost a step as the new owners are the same as the ones that own the flying elbow. The food as always is amazing, especially the Hot Chicken Sandwich!!
