I've heard a lot of hype for Cafe Du Monde and decided I would try some beignets without having to wait in a line for hours. The prices were perfect, and the food was good, however I didn't feel it was as good as the hype says the beignets are. Finally, there were barely enough tables for everyone in the restaurant, and each table had powdered sugar under and on top of it, showing they hadn't properly cleaned them between guests.
I wasn't impressed at this Cafe Du Monde. I loved the building it was absolutely lovely to look at! However, I was disappointed that they wouldn't sell me an iced coffee in the large plastic souvenir cup. I didn't have that issue the first time in NOLA at Cafe Du Monde on Riverwalk. We ended up leaving the store and not getting anything at this location. I was let down a tad because I really wanted to add some more cups to my collection.
Stopped in on a Saturday morning at 8am, not busy in a good way. Business picked up by 9am, but still many tables open. Inside was clean, service was fast. Cafe au lait was great today!! Beignets were not as hot as I have had them before. Overall though, great experience. Clean and fast and tasty.
For my money, going to any other Cafe Du Monde than the French Quarter ones will be a far better experience. The lines are shorter, the beignets are just as good, and the small hit to atmosphere isn't noticeable from inside the restaurant.
The servers were extremely helpful with answering questions about the menu. The food was fresh and the coffee was delicious. Definitely recommend
Please make sure your beignets are fresh. I went during the day... not too many folks there. I suspect I got some older ones. Other than this one time, beignets are outstanding! Have you tried the frozen cafe aulait? Perfect for a hot day!
While the French quarter location is iconic, this was easy in and easy out for a coffee and beignet fix!
We got 2 orders of the beignets (6 pieces total). Half were exceptional, very light and airy on the inside, crispy on the outside. The other half was very solid and doughy, even raw in the center.
