Plenty of parking, easy walk down to the lake to set up at a spot. If you prefer to walk there is a trail that starts here and wraps around the lake. The loop is over 7 miles. I walked down and went to the left to start. Nice views and pretty shaded for the most part. The trail is dirt, but mostly flat for the 2 miles I walked one way. I turned around at that point and headed back to the parking area. Trail is wide and easy walk. I saw people biking the trail too. There is a few areas along the way that have picnic benches to sit and have lunch.
Awesome short walk down to the lakeside and amazing views of Mt Shasta!
Had an amazing headshot photoshoot here! Plus they snagged a pic of me, darn you Ken. But absolutely wonderful area
Stunning views, few people
Nice location for a picnic. Lake very short walk from the free parking . Picnic tables with a nice view of the lake and mt Shasta. Small rocky beach.
Here during the winter, great view of Mountian Shasta. Handful of parking that I suspect gets full during the summer. A little tricky to get to the shore line, you follow a shaded trail then there's a drop from water loss to the shore line. Tables around, not very crowded during covid. People walking their dogs. There is a bathroom at the parking lot but I didn't see if it was open or not.
Excellent! Truly mesmerized by all the beautiful surroundings
Amazing lake location for some scenic pictures and fun in the water!
I swear some of these pictures could be wallpaper screenshots!
Mt. Shasta is Stunning.
The drive from Redding to Mt. Shasta is a beast if youâre not a fan of steep, winding, fast roads but once you arrive the view is breathtaking. Only wish we could have stayed longer and hiked.
The Black Butte trail is one of the most spectacular hikes Iâve been on in the USA, especially if you consider how accessible it is from major population centers (I mean, compared to say the Grand Canyon, which is cool and all but more out of the w

The views are amazing! Throughout the route, there are lake views. Downloading the trail is recommended since it's little challenging to follow through the campgrounds and other places.
My new favorite place in the world. Thousands of rocks, minerals, meteorites and mystical treasures to explore. The owner is amazing and knows where everything comes from.
I was blown away by this "little" museum. From the front, it looks so small. It was free and we had so many fun things to actually touch. My adult daughters were so happy to use the old typewriter and other gadgets. It had lots of kids items that w
Lovely little spot with well spaced campsites. And views of Shasta right from the site. We went on a Sunday in October so it was pretty quiet. Not sure how it is on weekends and prime time summer. Great proximity to the mountain bike trails at Gatewa
Beautiful Nature Trail, at the end of the trail is a lookout. John Everitt discovered this spot with amazing views of the surrounding mountains! Be sure to park & take the short walk, it is well worth the stop!!
I love this restaurant so much! This is my go to place for a special meal with my loved ones. Healthy high quality meals. The owner of the restaurant is so sweet, knowledgeable, and attentive! He and his wife go down to the bay area every week to get
This is the perfect place to start exploring the area. The free magazines and brochures are filled with helpful information. I couldn't leave without buying a postcard of the vortex.
Easy access just a short drive off the freeway. I only gave 4 stars for the location since this place is right next to a train track with frequent trains. The rooms are spacious and clean with complimentary earplugs. The staff is friendly and helpf
This was a great place. Fried Zucchini is my favorite and it tasted fresh. At one point I got a type of pasta I didn't care for, not that anything was wrong with it just not my thing, the waitress gave me tips on how to ask for what I wanted. Even th
