Breakside Brewery & Tasting Room - Brewery in Milwaukie - 5821 SE International Way, USA

Not sure how I haven't reviewed this place yet. One of our favorite breweries in Portland and they're so close to home! Bartenders are always nice and patient since there's so much to look at. They offer little tastings which is always nice and they talk to you about what you're looking for to better help you decide. The atmosphere is always super chill, not too loud either. You can bring food in which is fun (we recommend MaKin Thai & Sushi down the road). And even when it's packed it's still chill. It's fun to watch the regulars interact with the bartenders (and I think we're becoming regulars too). Oh and the prices are great. They're good people serving good beer!

Breakside is, more than any other place that comes to mind, all about the beer. Before you find the building itself, it's clear that you're in a light industrial, production setting - take the first, rightmost entrance off of International Way to find Breakside. The taproom has a nice system for tastings, letting you fill in the beers you want on a form that they use to pour, and your choices are laid out in the same order on a board. The biggest sign that beer is the focus is the choice (singular) of food. Your only option is chips and salsa - an unopened container of each. My guess is that they're in a building that is not zoned for any kind of food preparation at all. But this just reinforces the fact that Breakside is truly focused on beer, and their beers make it worth the trip from anywhere.

Fantastic visit. Just flew in from Virginia so this was one of the first stops. Steve was a great bartender. Very friendly (as was everyone). Very hospitable .Good brews. Flight and pints were great. Hope to go back sometime.

Breakside is still the best and most consistent brewery in Portland, but the bartender here today (8/5 @ 5pm) makes being here miserable. Yelling at a lady about a dog, rolling eyes at a customer asking for a coaster, not speaking to customers at all. I said hi to him twice and he just stared with a scowl, didn’t even speak during my order. Breakside, don’t let this guy push your customers away.

Awesome brewery and tasting room. There were 24 taps to choose from when I visited and they offer flights of 6. Pilsners, Pales, West Coast, Hazy, Sour, Stout.... Something good for everyone. I sampled 8 beers and all of them were good or better. The people working the bar are awesome and helpful; there is a nice vibe to the place, good music and plenty of seating inside and out.

What a great professional and fabulous brewery. We traveled the country for two months, googling “breweries near me.” This brewery was our favorite for selection, taste, and atmosphere-of all of them. Wish they would open in NC, now that we are home!!

The beer is great! Bring your own food. Follow the sign out by the main road. I did a taster board, with 6 different tastes. Very clean in main area and bathroom. Likes relaxed music mix too 👍🏻

Great beer! Their apricot sour and Wonderlust IPA were nice back to back. This particular venue is large, convenient for the area, and nice if you like the tap room feel. Don't go on a hot day if you are an AC junkie. No food trucks.
