Our family in SLO made reservations for a Christmas Eve dinner here. We were greeted and seated very promptly. Our server Lauren was friendly and had some great jokes for the whole table. Her recommendations on cocktails were spot on. Service her overall was quick and attentive throughout the whole meal. Ambiance in the space is bright with a minimalist touch. Walking through into the lobby is pretty cool and the hotel design maintains a sense of cohesion to the restaurant as well. We had the crab cake, Ceasar salad. Ceasar salad was good but dressing was more like Mayo than dressing. Crab cake has some heat and great flavors. The empanadas were fantastic and the shorter rib just melted in your mouth. But the real winner was the fried chicken. The portion was huge, the biscuit was gigantic and the seasoning was spot on in the entire dish. Will absolutely be back to Brasserie SLO
I really wanted to love Brasserie SLO. It's attached to Hotel Cerro, with the entrance and outdoor seating on the lovely, walkable Garden Street in downtown SLO. We arrived early for our dinner reservation, and we were warmly welcomed by the host and the bartender. The restaurant is beautifully designed inside, open and lively. We had drinks at the bar, and the bartender was fabulous and engaging. There's a great cocktail list. While the wine list was very short, there were good selections. However, once we were seated for dinner, we waited 15 minutes to be acknowledged, and about 25 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Our server was friendly, but we had been there over an hour by the time the first salad was served. Service aside, I had my eye on the fried chicken, but was informed that the chef who makes that dish is out tonight, and the working chef wasn't able to make it correctly, and was recommended to order the roasted chicken, which ended up being overcooked. We also ordered the Cioppino (delicious) and a 16-oz Ribeye (undercooked, gristley). Overall, for the price, the food quality and service were disappointing. We were there on a Friday night, so that could have been part of the problem. Also, note that the menu on the website is not the current menu in the restaurant.
I had the pleasure of dining at Brasserie SLO, an eatery located in downtown San Luis Obispo and attached to The Hotel Cerro. Walking in I was struck by the restaurant's unique architecture, which features a mix of brick, glass, steel, and lighting. It's a very cool space that sets the scene for a memorable dining experience. Our waitress greeted us with a warm smile and was very friendly and helpful throughout our meal. The menu offered a great selection of dishes, ranging from classic breakfast items to more unique fare like breakfast pizza. The service was quick and efficient, and our food arrived in a timely manner. I'll certainly be back with my friends and family to try more of the menu!
Absolutely worth every dollar we spent here. There is nothing I would change from our experience. The staff was incredible. The food was magnificent. The atmosphere was soothing. The architecture was brilliant.
Great meal top to bottom. We really enjoyed every single item we ordered. Cocktails were great (not too sweet). The baked brie and kale salad were perfect starters to have together (the clean acidity of the salad really balanced rich, sweet brie.) Overall, the mussels were the standout dish for me. Super flavorful. Our service was top notch, too!
I went for breakfast and had the Beignets and the breakfast sandwich and a mocha. The mocha had to be coffee and chocolate, not espresso and with minimal if any milk component. Or it was just a really bad pull, but it was hardly drinkable. The Beignets were fairly good but served with either the most sour/acidity strawberry jam I've ever had or the worst strawberry rhubarb jam I've had. Either way it wasn't worth touching as it overwhelmed the minor Beignets. The breakfast sandwich sounded great in principle then came absolutely slathered with this garlic mixture straight off an overpowering slice of garlic bread. The souffle type egg was delicious on its own but the garlic says was awful. I had about 3/4 of the meal as I needed to get on with my day but won't be returning on later trips. It's like they took every item I ordered and tried to find some aspect to tank the entire dish. And it was still like $40. I should have said something about the sandwich at least but it seemed too nice a place.
Walked in on Christmas Day as it was one of the few places open. Was left awkwardly standing there for 10+ minutes, staff not making eye contact with me or my parents. Had to go up and get right in front of a waitress before she acknowledged me and told me it was reservation only. Tell me that when I walk in! Post a sign! What the heck is going on with the staff. A small amount of social skills are needed to work in a service industry. It was then left TO ME to tell the others waiting that it was reservation only. I understand it’s Christmas and maybe the staff wanted to go home, but COMMUNICATE OR POST A SIGN
Had a wonderful dinner with the family here. Very nice wine selection to go along with the good starter offerings. Oysters were very nice start, which Max said were from Baja. I have always had PNW, NorCal, or New England varieties. These were delightful! Followed with the brie, which devoured in 3 minutes. Worth the wait. It is suited for two so order more than one for three or more people. My wife had a very well prepared martini and a Cesar's salad was shared. Nice touch with pickled purple onions. Mains were pasta, lamb, and the chefs cut steak. The Lamb was very tender and delicious. The lamb sausage is like a semi spicy kofta. My wife had the steak which was lean and cooked perfectly per her order. The accompanying mushrooms and sauce did not overwhelm the beef, which is how we like it. I didn't get a chance to taste the pasta, but my daughter ate it all. We shared a carafe of Tablas Creek white blend. Don't know what the corkage fee is, probably should inquire since there are wineries all over the place. Finished with coffee and desserts. Coffee was nice and thankfully very hot! Don't know why so many restaurants serve semi hot coffee. Overall nice atmosphere. We dined outside which was helped by the cool summer evening. Inside was gorgeous, with a beautiful bar. We all commented on the modern but comfortable french bistro chairs. Very nice touch. I will return to try the beef bourguignon or octopus. Finally our server Max did a great job pacing the orders and answered all the questions on the menu. There is street parking, but if you know this town, it's good to know the several parking garages nearby. I do reccomend reservations, which we made 45 minutes prior. We were pleasantly surprised by this place, having just arrived in town and picked it almost randomly.
