Boxcar Bar - Featured Reviews (229)
I take the train from Short Hills to New York a few times per week. When I look at this building I'm not thinking about a bar or a restaurant, I'm thinking, "this is where I have to go to get to work". I'm thinking, "this just looks like a train station that was built a century ago and was converted into a bar and restaurant for the sake of modern times". That being said, I do see people in here on cold early what, drinking coffee and whatnot. I do not think that the early morning activity is in any way affiliated with this review. I'm talking to all you people who have to get to New York for work. As far as my review for the "Boxcar Bar", The food was good and the drinks were good and the service was okay. It's a bar with food. Don't expect anything special, but it should meet your expectations. I live in Springfield so I'm happy this place is close for the evening hours. They close relatively early. Try it out. I would come here again and again. As long as it's AFTER work... you know what I mean.
My friends and I got together after work for drinks and food. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. At first I didn't see where the restaurant was but it is located right by the train station. I walked in and found some seats by the bar where we sat. Amy was our bartender and she was good. I only drank so I had Merlot. My friends got food and drinks which they enjoyed. There is no happy hour here fyi. The bill wasn't too bad. All in all we enjoyed our time.
What about awesome concept for a restaurant, there is a bar and a few tables on one side of the building, and when the train station closes they turn the other half into a dining room. Very cool, and they have plenty of outdoor seating as well. Great bar with local brews on tap, and a very good bourbon selection. The food was amazing. The loaded tater tots, wings, pizzas, burger and fries were all excellent. The staff was second to none, attentive and informed about what they had to offer, and they couldn't have been friendlier. You won't be disappointed here!
This place could be great. If that guy Sean wasn't so incredibly and repeatedly rude. If they had more than 4 tables inside on a windy Saturday evening. If those 4 "reserved" tables weren't empty the whole time we froze outside, if they got the order right, and maybe tried the food they're serving to make sure it's worth eating.
I wanted everything on the menu but after ordering fish tacos (without onions and it being served with onions, though quickly replaced with a new order), I was very disappointed by the sad little tacos with dry, tough tortillas. My sister's pork tortillas had no flavor. Kids house-made fish fingers and fries were good. Shrimp dish and mushroom ravioli were fine.
I would still give it another try but only on a night Sean isn't working and the weather cooperates.
Unique restaurant, located in the Short Hills train station. We are always welcomed and greeted like family. The pork chops are really a must.
I had a birthday party here a few weeks ago. I can honestly say that I had the best time with my friends. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience on the night than the one I had. I will definitely be coming back here in the future for events. Thank you for having us.
WOW, WOW, WOW. The best dinner and drinks we’ve had in a while. Super attentive staff and the owner is on premises checking in on all his guests. The seasonal cocktails and craft beers were great. Crystal our server had great suggestions and checked on us several times. Super fresh ingredients and house made.. everything! Mahi mahi tacos and station burger did not disappoint. The loaded tater tots were some of the best we had and they were huge.
Wish that we lived a little closer so this could be a mainstay for us but we’ll definitely stop in next time we’re in the area. Thank you Sean for a great evening!
Great experience. super cute, cozy atmosphere. enjoyed drinks, cauliflower, kale and turkey burger special, and cobbler dessert! Nice staff too!
The Mall at Short Hills is one of the top luxury malls in the United States. While some of the stores are not quite as high end as they used to be 10 or 15 years ago, you can still find every top flight designer here. Other than having more restauran
Greenwood Gardens is an absolute treasure in the heart of New Jersey. From the moment I stepped foot in this botanical wonderland, I was spellbound.
The meticulously maintained gardens are a testament to the dedication and expertise of the caretaker
Gero Park is quite nice. They have a wide variety of things you can do. Given the amount of space, it is great for a casual walk, but the park also has a basketball court, several tennis courts, several jungle gyms, swings, a roller blade hockey rink
Best grocery store I've ever been in. And it's not just this one. Kings, period. Amazing food, amazing selection, and friendly staff. I wish our stores back home were this great!
I've eaten here multiple times and the food is really top notch. I usually opt for the veal Milanese, which is a huge breaded chop topped with a wonderful arugula salad.
For a change of pace, I tried the giant meatball (appetizer) with vodka sauce.
I purchased 3 Biggie Bags from this location. I had zero problems with ordering, or hearing my name called. It was myself and 2 children. Good arrived promptly and it wasn't 'full' of indoor dining accessibility. Ample tables for indydining. Everythi
