Bourbon n' Toulouse - Cajun restaurant in Lexington - 829 Euclid Ave, USA

Great little spot! Service was spot on, all smiles and super genuine. Loved having clearly marked vegan items. Food had just the right amount of heat- slow heat with tons of flavor! So glad I stumbled upon this gem from a Google search on our way home to Indianapolis from the Smokies. Tons of different hot sauces if you want a little extra.

Oh Wow Holy Cow! Very seldom does a place live up to the hype but this is the place deserves every bit of its Google rating. Lexington has always had an interesting Cajun food scene serving food that you wouldn’t be surprised to find in a hole in the wall restaurant hidden in an alley off of Bourbon St that has been ran by the same man for fifty years, this place is no exception to that excellent tradition. The food has that fresh homemade flavor and style that you will not find in most Cajun restaurants, it was served promptly and at a price point that can’t be beat. Definitely check both menus as the Chicken Creole is as good as that made by Justin Wilson himself. Only food we tried that I would place a warning on was the slaw. It was very good, but was just a vinegar based slaw and not what most in Kentucky would call slaw, thinking the kitchen left out or scrimped on the Mayo. The atmosphere is perfect and a perfect match for the style and flavor of the food. Whether it was the eclectic wall hangings, the predominant 1980-90s alt music playing, the examples of local poetry on the bathroom wall this place just feels good to be in.

Finally made it here for the first time and it did not disappoint. Delicious hole in the wall Cajun food served with no unnecessary pretensions or fanfare, just delicious food in huge portions for a reasonable price. I had the 1/2 and 1/2 meal, splitting Chicken Etouffee and Jambalaya. The Etouffee was a little thicker and more savory than what I've had elsewhere but was still delicious and heavy with shredded chicken. The Jambalaya has fantastic flavor with big chunks of sausage and chicken throughout. It all has a touch of spice but wasn't overwhelming (though there was a huge assortment of sauces on the counter to kick it up as desired). Cold bottled Ale 8's is always a huge plus for this Winchester native and they had the Orange Creme and Diet varieties as well. The vibe is casual, eccentric and fun with lots of art and local paraphernalia. The staff is friendly and helpful and one of the cooks was serenading alongside the music as he delivered delicious food at the counter. Parking is a little challenging depending on the time of day. Thankfully my friend guided us to the Ashland Plaza parking lot nearby which has after 5 parking and access to the back door.

The Fat Man wanted some good Cajun cuisine. So, the wife and I headed up to Bourbon n' Toulouse to grab some treats from the bayou. B&T serves Cajun Creole specialties (including many gluten-free options) in simple, colorful surroundings. I got a full order ½ and ½. One dish I tried was the Chicken Étouffée. This is made with a spicy roux-based brown gravy, shredded chicken, and rice. The roux was dark and rich, and the chicken was very tender. This dish had a great heat level, although heavy on the pepper. The rice was perfectly cooked and fluffy. This is their #1 selling dish. The other half of my dinner was Cajun Red Chili. This is made with a spicy tomato base chili, beef, pork and is served over rice. This dish had many big chunks of meat with a sweet flavor on the front and a good heat level. The tomatoes offer good texture and acid to this award-winning dish. Neither dish was overwhelmingly hot, and they both were full of flavor. My wife tried a ½ order of White Chili w/ Chicken. This is made with mild white chili, great northern beans, chicken, and red bell peppers with herbs and spices. This chili was thick and cooked well. The beans offered some texture and a chew. The seasoning on the chicken was flavorful and tender. It was mild with a low heat level. This dish is also award-winning. They serve sliced baguette bread on the side with every meal. It was crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside, with a nice amount of garlic butter. They also have a large number of hot sauces to go along with their food. I liked the Cajun Power Garlic. It offered some good heat with a sweet pop and a great garlic punch. B&T serves half, full, and half-and-half orders of their dishes. Along with Cajun and Creole classics, they also serve sandwiches and vegetarian and vegan dishes. The staff is amiable, and the food comes quickly. This is a small place, so there may be a wait. The Fat Man says that Bourbon n' Toulouse is Fat Man Approved with 2 chins.

We got "The Truth" and Southweat Etouffe. Highly recommend this to anyone looking for food packed with flavor, enough protein(if you're a macro guy/gal), and consideration of food allergies. Staff were well accommodating for my gluten allergy and very friendly.

Kind of surprised by how good this was. Kind of a little hole in the wall but the food was amazing. Really good vegetarian (and vegan!) options, and they let you do two half entrees if you want more than one thing. Also they let you taste test before you pick! Fun vibes and I have an extra positive bias because the playlist sounded like someone had hacked my Spotify account 😆

The food is incredible. So much flavour in each dish. The service is absolutely amazing! They provided samples since it was our first time so we could find something we liked (we liked everything). They offer many different portion sizes so you can customize to how hungry you are and sample different things. The sizes are generous! Cozy, bright atmosphere inside.

Fun eclectic spot with some flavorful food. I had the half and half of gumbo and jambalaya. Jambalaya was good but that Gumbo is special. I told the cashier the gumbo was a religious experience. I'm serious, we need to baptize our children in this holy broth.
