Visited after learning of this cemetery from "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." Did not expect to find such a tranquil and lovely place. It truly is like a garden. Many of the monuments are huge and quite artistic. Also my first experience of family plots that are sectioned off by stone and gates. This is a very large cemetery and easy to get lost. So go with someone local ~ or pick up a map at the shop. Nicely maintained by the Savannah cemetery staff. Photos are from mid-autumn.

When I visited Bonaventure Cemetery, it felt like stepping into a garden more than a graveyard. This place is famous for being one of the first garden cemeteries in America, which means instead of just having rows of tombstones, it has beautiful trees and flowers everywhere. It's like a park where you can learn about history and see some really old and interesting graves. Walking around, I noticed that it wasn't just a place for people to be sad about those who had died; it was also a place for the living to enjoy nature and think about the past in a peaceful way. The big oak trees with Spanish moss hanging down gave it a kind of spooky but cool look, like something out of a movie. First of all volunteer Susan was very helpful and do take the time to stop in the visitor center for advice and any bathroom breaks. I learned that garden cemeteries started because people wanted cemeteries to be more like comfortable parks for families to visit and remember their loved ones. Bonaventure definitely has that vibe. There are lots of paths to walk on and benches to sit on. Some of the gravestones are really artistic, too, not just the usual ones you see

Bonaventure Cemetery sits along the river on the grounds of a former plantation. The spot where the older graves are is so peaceful and lovely. One may visit the Mercer Family grave site or other areas of this beautiful area with lovely massive live oak trees everywhere. We picked up a tour at the Visitor's Center in historic Savannah, or one may take a tour that begins right next door to the cemetery itself.

Lovely cemetery mainly for the Gothic charm of the Spanish moss-covered trees and stonework. We didn't bother with a paid tour and strolled on our own. Mosquito repellent recommended! It's no Lakeview Cemetery but it is big.

What a magical and beautiful historic landmark! The Sunday tour by the Historical Society was one of the best I have ever been on! An absolute must in Savannah to learn more about the fascinating history of this amazing city. Our guide was so informed and had researched local and US history so well. His insights into the links of the affluent elite buried in the cemetery and the horrifying history of slavery on which Savannah is built were eye-opening and deeply tragic.

Very large and beautiful cemetery. So much history we spent 2 hours there and didn’t see a third of it. Highly recommended!!

Visited the cemetery while in Savannah after hearing about its rich history. What I found was so much beauty in the landscape and care taken to preserve this historic landmark of American history

A trip to Savannah would not be complete without visiting Bonaventure Cemetery. There are tours or it's very easy to drive-in and wind your way through the cemetery visiting different sites. There's a bench overlooking the river and it's peaceful and serene! I always get a good feeling when I visit Bonaventure.

Tubby's Thunderbolt location is a timeless place that feels like the old Savannah, more laid back and with a nautical vibe, overlooking the Wilmington River. The outdoor deck is the perfect setting, even in January. We had lunch on New Year's Day, wh
