This is a cool spot with a few shorter hikes ranging from east to moderate. The easy hikes take you along a sandy, relatively flat dirt path while the moderate hike takes you up steps and rocks. If you do get a chance to climb up to the top of the trail overlooking the valley, you might get a chance to spot a hot air balloon taking off. This park is part of the National Park Service but it is free to enter and offers free parking.
When I arrived to Boca Negra Canyon I was a bit confused about daily use pass if it was needed or not. Fee collection station had a sign that it was discontinued so I assumed I didn’t need a pass. This place gives you access to Mesa Point Trail, Macaw Trail and Cliff Base Trail
Beautiful sites! We enjoyed our hike here. Be warned, there is a trail up the canyon but it does still involve some climbing.
Slightly upset that NPS has these trails listed as paved and accessible. They are technically paved, but a wheelchair could not go over any of them. We were frustrated because we didn't know this until we got there. The trails were moderate I'd say solely for the steep stairs and some didn't have railings. We still did them fairly easily, even in the heat of the day.
I'm so glad I stopped here. 100 petroglyph to see, 2 of the hikes are very easy to navigate with just a few steps leading up to a view of the carvings, the 3rd is climbing a bit steeper with a beautiful view when you reach the top of the mountain. It was free to enter during my visit, there is a booth that looks like they use to charge an entrance fee but it was closed. The park is very clean and well maintained, bathrooms are clean, they have a water station to fill up your water bottle, 3 areas for parking including a place for rv's .
I had an amazing time hiking and exploring this area. The petroglyphs and views of the volcanic rocks were incredible. There is a great view of the city here! The cairns are beautiful too!
The petroglyphs at Boca Negra Canyon are pretty visible, however the facilities are the most rundown of the national parks. Graffiti dots some of the stones, indicating the need for more protection. Still, it’s pretty amazing that you can get so close to such ancient places. While there are trails, most of them are not wheelchair accessible, so keep that in mind when you’re trying to view the petroglyphs.
Very well set up and easy to navigate. The hill was pretty steep, but we saw people pf all ages traversing the area. The view from the top is pretty remarkable Good clean bathrooms and a decent amount of parking. The bathrooms are a bit removed from the main hill. The walking paths around were made up of sand, some boardwalk and some choppy asphalt. Definitely worth stopping to see!

Stopped here to soak in the perfect weather & views while passing through New Mexico on 7/3/23 at about 7:²âµam. We made breakfast at one of the picnic areas & took a short bike ride. I even got a nice shot of the moon. ð I loved it! I wish it
We enjoyed walking through the pumpkin and chile fields with our granddaughter. She enjoyed the piano and couches set up in the sunflower field. What a fun place! We bought pumpkins and honey and truly enjoyed a beautiful day.
Parking a little small. Very busy on weekend. Great for hike, you can choose the length of the hike depending which way you go. Best to use AllTrails map.
Very clean trail. There were many scenic views along the trail. Mutt mitts (doggie poo bags) are available and they are better than the poo bags that you buy in the store. There are a few benches overlooking truly amazing landscapes. Bring some water
This place is pretty neat. You get to see all sorts of rock carvings in different areas. We went here when it was in the 30s as I avoid the hot days. Nice walk, the parking lot is small.
Easy walk with a payout of large rocks that are a great place to rest. This is one of my favorite very easy hikes around Albuquerque. Most of the ground is fairly level and to get to the type of rocks shown, it's less than a mile. I like this hike
Pretty area with a short trail up to view a rocky wash. First part of the trail is wide and accessible, last part is steeper. Quite a bit of work has been done recently on the trail in the narrower part and there are arrows to guide people and hopefu
There is no one better than Lawrence for a specialized plan. I came in with a gluteal tendinopathy after months of working with a Physical Therapist, Lawrence was the one who finally got me feeling fully healed. Great gym, great people, highly reco
Absolutely loved my stay at the Desert Compass! The property is beautiful and very well kept. I stayed in the Rattlesnake Suite and it was so cozy, welcoming, and clean. The private/gated parking provided me with peace of mind. I would definitely boo
